Cheongju's rich regional heritage, represented by craft cultures such as “Jikji”[1] and “hanji,”[2] is delicately woven throughout the spatial design to connect with Genesis' own design philosophy of craftsmanship.

Through a modern reinterpretation of traditional Korean architectural concepts, the showroom expresses a sense of understated authenticity. The first-floor canopy is a modern take on “cheoma,”[3] while the upper structure draws inspiration from Gyeonghoeru, the royal pavilion at Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul. Inside, the third and fourth-floor Brand Cubes capture the essence of “jeongja,”[4] and the sensory feel of hanji.

Genesis X Skorpio Concept: Fearless Exploration Meets Extreme Off-Roading

Revealed globally earlier this year in the Rub’ al Khali “Empty Quarter” desert in the UAE, the X Skorpio Concept is Genesis' first extreme off-road vehicle. The GV60 Magma is the first production model to emerge from Genesis’ luxury high performance Magma program, officially marking the brand’s entry into the high-performance market. Its design incorporates several features to manage airflow and increase downforce for high-speed stability, including a bold front bumper with a widened air intake for improved cooling, canards to reduce lift and a distinctive winglet-type rear spoiler. In 2022, the GV70 range - including Electrified GV70 - was awarded “Best Large SUV,” marking the second award win bestowed by the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers for the model. Following the Electrified GV70’s refresh in 2025, the enhancements have earned the model the top spot in the Premium category against tough competition from luxury competitors.

SEOUL, Nov. 19, 2025 — True luxury isn’t just about sophisticated design and cutting-edge technology; it’s about safety. More than a luxury vehicle, Genesis is a sanctuary where advanced safety features and exceptional craftsmanship come together to create an elevated driving experience.

Several of the marque’s models have been independently recognized for their safety features, passing the most strenuous safety testing with flying colors. Most recently, six Genesis models were recognized for their excellent safety performance by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). 

Independently Recognized

The IIHS awarded the 2025 GV60, 2025-26 GV70 (built after April 2024), 2025-26 Electrified GV70, 2026 G80 (built after June 2025) and 2025 GV80 models the 2025 TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) rating. IIHS also awarded the 2025 Genesis G90 the 2025 TOP SAFETY PICK (TSP) rating. IIHS awards only apply to U.S. models.

But what is the IIHS and what do these ratings mean? The IIHS is an independent, nonprofit scientific and educational organization dedicated to reducing deaths, injuries and property damage from motor vehicle crashes through research and evaluation and through education of consumers, policymakers and safety professionals.

Based on a vehicle’s performance in crashworthiness tests (small overlap front, moderate overlap front: updated test, and side: updated test) as well as crash avoidance and mitigation tests (headlights and front crash prevention: pedestrian), the IIHS assigns a rating for each test.

To qualify for 2025 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK, a vehicle must earn good ratings in the small overlap front and updated side tests and an acceptable rating in the updated moderate overlap front test. It also must earn an acceptable or good rating for pedestrian front crash prevention and come with standard acceptable- or good-rated headlights.

Earning the 2025 IIHS TSP and TSP+ awards positively promotes Genesis’ reputation as a manufacturer of safe vehicles in the U.S. market. This is because American consumers trust the IIHS’s scientific and systematic safety evaluation methods. 

Raising Safety Standards

Earning these ratings is becoming increasingly challenging, as the IIHS’s evaluation standards have become more stringent over the past few years. In 2023, IIHS increased the weight and speed it uses in the side impact test. The same year, a nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention evaluation was added. In 2025, IIHS updated the criteria to earn the 2025 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK awards, including the requirement of better protection for second-row occupants.

Genesis welcomed the new, tougher criteria and stepped up to the plate. A total of six Genesis models earned the coveted 2025 IIHS TSP and TSP+ ratings under the more stringent IIHS regulations in 2025 — the 2025 GV60, 2025-26 GV70 (built after April 2024), 2025-26 Electrified GV70, 2026 G80 (built after June 2025), 2025 GV80, and 2025 Genesis G90. IIHS awards only apply to U.S. models.

However, over in Europe, Genesis has also won top honors from the European New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP). The Genesis G70, GV70, G80 and GV80 won “5-star” NCAP ratings in 2021, and the Genesis GV60 received a 5-star rating from NCAP in 2022.

Beyond Just Crash Testing

Genesis vehicles do well in independent safety evaluations because they are a part of a rigorous and comprehensive Group-level culture of safety technology development and testing. Before Hyundai Motor Group even releases a new model or submits it for outside testing, it tests it in-house at its R&D Center in Namyang, a 40,000-square-meter facility specifically designed and built in 2005 for thorough safety testing.

Within the Center, the Group spends about 4,000 hours and $7 million to run approximately 100 crash tests involving 27 different types of crash test dummies to make sure each new car model has the highest possible level of crash safety. The crash tests are only a small part of the safety testing process; most of the time is taken up in analyzing the crash results to extract meaningful insights. This data, combined with real-world accident reports from national highway and safety organizations worldwide, is used to develop and refine safety features, including innovations like the world’s first composite crash airbag developed by the automaker in 2019.

The result of all this testing is a comprehensive suite of preventative technologies that work together to reduce the likelihood of accidents. Here are some of the most notable safety technologies that can be found in Genesis vehicles:

Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA):  Uses a combination of radar and front-facing cameras to scan the road ahead for vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and even oncoming traffic at intersections. If a potential collision is detected, the system issues visual and audible warnings to alert the driver. If the driver does not react to the warning sounds, FCA can apply partial or full braking to either mitigate or entirely avoid impact.

Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA): Uses radar sensors on the rear corners to monitor adjacent lanes for approaching traffic. If a vehicle is detected, a warning light appears in the side mirror and an alert sounds inside the cabin. If the driver ignores the warning and attempts a lane change anyway, the system can gently steer the vehicle back into its lane or, in some situations, apply selective braking to prevent a collision.

Advanced Airbags: Vehicles made by Genesis include 8-10 different airbags to protect passengers in a variety of potential collisions. Front airbags exist for both the driver and front passenger. Also included on the driver’s side is a driver’s knee airbag to prevent leg injuries in a head-on collision. Side airbags inflate between the driver and the door, and between the passenger and the door, to prevent injuries from side impact collisions. Between the driver and front passenger is also a center side airbag that pops in between the two seats, reducing the chance of first-row occupants hitting each other’s heads or other objects in the event of a side collision. Only 10 car models in the U.S. have this type of safety measure installed. There are also two rollover curtain airbags that deploy from both sides of the roof rails above the front and rear doors that further protect the heads of occupants in the car in the event of side impact collisions. They also deploy if a rollover is detected in models that have rollover sensors.

FRANKFURT, Germany, Sept. 12, 2025 — The Genesis Electrified G80* was named the winner in the imported upper mid-size category at yesterday's Company Car of the Year 2025 awards ceremony. The prestigious award was presented at IAA Mobility in Munich.

The Company Car of the Year award recognizes the best vehicles for commercial use in 17 categories. A total of 266 models were nominated. An independent jury of fleet experts first selected three favorites per category and then, optionally, the best import models.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Sept. 16, 2024 — The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has announced that the 2025 Genesis GV70 and the 2024 Electrified GV70 SUVs earned TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) designations for vehicles built after April 2024, making Genesis the automotive brand with the most TSP+ ratings as of September 2024. 

The TSP+ award identifies the best vehicle choices for safety within their respective categories. This year’s evaluation upgraded the GV70 and the Electrified GV70 from their prior TOP SAFETY PICK ratings.

**Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA) is designed to notify drivers of approaching cross-traffic behind their vehicles. When another vehicle is detected while you are backing out of a parking spot, it provides audible and visual display warnings and applies braking if it senses a collision is imminent. RCCA is active when the vehicle is in reverse gear and backing at a speed of less than 6 miles per hour. It only engages during the first activation of reverse gear from park and may not detect all vehicles, depending on the size, angle, distance and speed of the other vehicle. Never rely exclusively on RCCA. Always look over your shoulder and use your mirrors to confirm rear clearance. There are limitations to the function, detection, range and clarity of the system. ***Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) helps the driver by warning of other cars in the blind spot region and can apply braking to help prevent an unsafe lane change. It senses the rear side territory of the vehicle when it is traveling over 20 miles per hour. There are limitations to the function, range, detection and clarity of the system. It will not detect all vehicles or objects in the blind spot. Its operation depends on the size, distance, angle and relative speed difference between your car and other cars. FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., May 3, 2024 — The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) announced that the 2024 Genesis G80 sedan and G90 flagship sedan have earned TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) recognition. 
 

The TSP+ award applies to 2024 model-year vehicles built after October 2023, when Genesis modified the rear seat belts in the G80 and G90 to improve rear occupant protection. Cars built before that date still qualify for the TOP SAFETY PICK award. 

IIHS’ top safety award identifies the best vehicle choices for safety within size categories during a given year. This year’s evaluation upgraded G80 and G90 from their previous TOP SAFETY PICK ranking. G80 and G90 now join the 2024 GV60 and GV80 with top honors.

To earn the TSP+ award this year, an acceptable or good rating in the updated moderate overlap front test is required, while a good rating in the original moderate overlap front test remains sufficient for the lower-tier TOP SAFETY PICK.

The Korea Image Stepping Stone Award was presented to Mike Song, Global Head of Genesis, at the 2024 Korea Image Awards sponsored by Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and held at the InterContinental Seoul COEX hotel on Jan. 10.

When asked by CICI President Jungwha Choi about the concept of the Beauty of White Space, Song replied that Genesis diligently endeavors to encapsulate the “beauty of restraint” derived from Korean aesthetics in its car designs, ultimately aiming to create “subtle elegance.” 

Among the other recipients of the 2024 Korea Image Awards was distinguished Swiss architect Mario Botta, honored with the Korea Image Stepping Stone Bridge Award for his design contributions to several Korean landmarks, including the Leeum Muesum of Art. French pansori (traditional Korean narrative singing) performer Laure Mafo received the Korea Image Flowerstone Award, while Korean operatic pop tenor Lim Hyung-joo was presented with the Korea Image Capstone Award in recognition for his pioneering role in popularizing operatic pop in the country and gaining worldwide fame with his music.

Established in 2003 and registered under Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, CICI is a non-profit organization dedicated to public diplomacy and the promotion of Korean culture. The annual Korea Image Awards, initiated in 2005, recognizes individuals, groups and organizations for their contributions in enhancing Korea’s global reputation.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Aug. 24, 2023 — Today, J.D. Power designated Genesis as its highest ranked brand for tech innovation in the J.D. Power 2023 U.S. Tech Experience Index (TXI) Study. Genesis earned the top Innovation Index score of 656 through offering a range of advanced technologies across its product lineup. This represents the third year in a row that Genesis took top honors in the U.S. TXI study. The Genesis GV80 was the premium model awarded best emerging automation for front cross traffic warning technology, known as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA)[i].

The Genesis GV80 was awarded the emerging automation award for Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Junction Turning (FCA-JT)[ii]. FCA-JT is a comprehensive monitoring system that warns drivers of potential collisions by utilizing front view cameras and corner radars. Junction turning may provide greater protection by automatically applying braking at the right time. When an on-coming vehicle is detected when turning left at an intersection, the feature may warn the driver and provide braking assistance to prevent a possible collision. 

The TXI Study measures the effectiveness of emerging technologies automotive brands bring to market on a 1,000-point scale. The index combines the level of adoption of new technologies for each brand with the excellence in execution. The measurement of execution examines how much owners like the technologies and how many problems they experience using them. 

The TXI Study analyzes 40 technologies divided into four categories: convenience, emerging automation, energy and sustainability, and infotainment and connectivity.

The system’s Junction Turning function operates when the vehicle’s left turn signal is activated, the vehicle is travelling between approximately 6-19 mph and the oncoming vehicle’s speed is between approximately 19-44 mph. The driver is responsible for being attentive and maintaining control of the vehicle, and should not wait for the system's alerts before braking as there may not be sufficient time to brake safely. Genesis unveiled the X Convertible in November 2022 in Malibu, California, as the final piece of the Genesis X Concept Trilogy that includes the X Concept and the X Speedium Coupe Concept. SangYup Lee, Head of Genesis Global Design Center, elaborated, “The Genesis X Convertible Concept materializes the brand’s Athletic Elegance design philosophy in its purest form by emphasizing emotional performance. The Genesis X Convertible Concept completes the X Concept Trilogy by envisioning the future of Genesis design and inspiration.” 

The four-passenger concept features a driver-centric layout—a consistent theme throughout all Genesis concept cars. Its folding hardtop roof with transparent moon roofs above the front seats provides a sense of openness even when closed, allowing users to feel connected to the surrounding environment. The wraparound instrument panel seamlessly integrates with the center console and cocoons the driver cockpit, emphasizing its connection to the driver. 

Paying homage to its Korean heritage, Genesis incorporated cultural elements into its colorways. The exterior is colored with Crane White, named after white cranes that symbolize nobility and sanctity in Korea. The interior of the X Convertible features Giwa Navy and Dancheong Orange hues, inspired by traditional Korean roof architecture, which add to the concept’s modern look and feel, as well as its vibrant character.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Aug. 18, 2023 – Today, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) announced that the 2024 Genesis GV60, GV70, and GV80 SUVs earn TOP SAFETY PICK+ recognition.

To qualify for IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ in 2023, a vehicle must earn:

• Good ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, updated side and original moderate overlap front tests
• Acceptable or good headlights standard across all trims
• Advanced or superior ratings of a front crash prevention system in both daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations must be available

GV60 and GV70 were both good-rated for headlights on all trims. GV60 earned superior ratings on the standard front crash prevention system in both vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations, while GV70’s standard system earned advanced ratings in both tests. GV80 earned a superior rating in the daytime vehicle-to-pedestrian test and an advanced rating in the nighttime evaluation.

All Genesis models are equipped with a comprehensive suite of state-of-the-art active and passive safety technologies including Forward Collision Avoidance-Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Keep Assist, Blind-Spot Collision Warning and more. **Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) helps the driver by warning of other cars in the blind spot region and can apply braking to help prevent an unsafe lane change. It senses the rear side territory of the vehicle when it is traveling over 20 mph. There are limitations to the function, range, detection and clarity of the system. It will not detect all vehicles or objects in the blind spot. Its operation depends on the size, distance, angle and relative speed difference between your car and other cars. BCA may not operate if sensors are obscured in any way. Do not rely exclusively on BCA. BCA is a supplemental system and the driver must still be attentive and exercise caution when driving. It is important to always signal, look over your shoulder and through your mirrors before changing lanes. It is the driver’s responsibility to be aware of the surroundings and ensure it is clear before changing lanes or directions. See Owner’s Manual for details and limitations.

At the 2023 Seoul Mobility Show, Genesis showcased the X Concept Trilogy — the Genesis X Concept, Genesis X Speedium Coupe, and Genesis X Convertible — in its booth that featured a hanging art installation inspired by the roof tiles of traditional Korean houses, or giwa. Crafted from 900 pieces of eco-friendly recycled acrylics, this installation embodies the graceful curves of traditional Korean rooftops. Complementing this installation, digital windows reminiscent of Korean architectural motifs portrayed the four seasons of the year, reflecting Genesis’ distinctly Korean influences. 

Genesis also received a distinction in the same discipline with its ‘MY GENESIS’ app launched this May.
