NORTH BERWICK, Scotland, July 16, 2023 — Rory McIlroy from Northern Ireland was crowned the 2023 Genesis Scottish Open champion after four days of exciting competition at the Renaissance Club in East Lothian, Scotland. McIlroy’s 15-under par was one shot ahead of his nearest challenger, Scotsman Robert MacIntyre, taking home US $1.62 million and an Electrified GV70. 

The Genesis Scottish Open, co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR, is one of Europe’s most prestigious golf tournaments and is part of the coveted Rolex Series. The prize purse for this year’s event amounted to US $9 million, with a top-class field featuring eight of the top 10 players in the Official World Golf Rankings. 

Korean player, Byeong Hun An finished in a three-way tie for third place on 10-under, four shots behind McIlroy. An is now qualified for The 151st Open at Royal Liverpool through the Genesis Scottish Open. 

A sensational 6-under in strong winds, the lowest round on the final day, saw Scotsman, Robert MacIntyre, finish just one shot behind McIlroy and claim second place. As the leading Scottish golfer, MacIntyre took home the Jock MacVicar Association of Golf Writers Memorial Award ahead of Grant Forrest, who finished in 11th place on 8-under, and Ewen Ferguson, who finished joint 12th with a score of 7-under. 

To elevate the overall tournament experience for all spectators, Genesis made several enhancements to the fan experience in the Championship Village, and a Mobile Lounge that offered test drives to select Genesis models. 

Genesis placed special focus on upgrading the level of care for players and their companions. Players had full support throughout the event, as well as a Genesis Concierge in the Player’s Lounge to ensure their families were well taken care of. Lopez joins Genesis Design at a period of rapid development. Along with the design teams in Namyang, South Korea, and Los Angeles, California, the European design team is essential in providing creative input for global projects. Tasked with developing exterior, interior and concept car proposals, the team competes and contributes to production programs and advanced design projects. 

A Barcelona native, Lopez has more than three decades of experience in engineering and design. He began his career as an industrial engineer developing projects within the automotive, nautical, electronic, telecommunications and domestic appliance industries before transitioning to product and graphic design. He became an automotive designer in 2000 and has since worked in a number of exterior and interior design roles, most recently leading a team of more than 300 designers in a global role.

He was an automotive designer for the Group’s Spanish subsidiary SEAT; was responsible for Interior Design at Lamborghini; was Advanced Design manager responsible for Audi show cars; and was Head of Interior Design for both the Audi and SEAT brands. Lopez was also Head of Exterior and Interior Design at Ferrari before taking on a global role as Exterior Design Director and Creative Design Director at BYD and Changan, respectively. 

With his accumulated expertise and diverse global experience, Lopez will be an asset to the global Genesis design team. He will now lead a team of talented designers from varied nationalities based in a new design studio in Offenbach am Main, east Frankfurt. The creation of the new studio—which merges brand and design functions in one facility—not only provides the designers with a new, dedicated work space, but will also allow for the team to expand.

FRANKFURT, Germany, Nov. 3, 2022 — Genesis GV60 is "German Premium Car of the Year": The Korean premium brand’s first electric car secured the prestigious award presented annually by German motor and industry journalists. 

The "German Car of the Year" (GCOTY) is chosen by an approximately 30-member jury, which selects five class winners through an online voting process. The selected cars represent the top of their respective segments and thus qualify for the final stage, where class winners compete against each other through test drives to determine an overall winner. 

The all-electric GV60 won in the "Premium" category, which included new cars with a starting price between 30,000 and 60,000 euros. GV60 prevailed in this particularly competitive vehicle class, going up against well-known competition from Germany and abroad. Additionally, the brand’s first dedicated electric vehicle was also nominated in the "New Energies" category, which is dedicated to alternatively powered models.

Long range, comprehensive standard equipment 

The Genesis GV60 is the first of three pure electric cars of the premium brand: with a starting price of £47,005 in the UK, it is available in three all-electric powertrains (Premium, Sport and Sport Plus) and offers a range of up to 321 miles. Featuring innovative technology, the high-voltage battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 18 minutes at 350 kW fast-charging stations.

FRANKFURT, Germany, Sept.7, 2022 — Genesis Motor Europe can reveal that the GV60 has been awarded a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating. 

GV60, the brand’s first dedicated electric vehicle, arrived in studios earlier in June 2022 and has now secured the maximum five-star rating from Euro NCAP, Europe’s leading independent safety testing organisation. 

The news follows similar top scores for G70 and G80 saloon, G70 Shooting Brake, GV70 and GV80 SUV, which means all of Genesis’s European range tested by the Euro NCAP organization is now five-star Euro NCAP rated. 

As with the other Genesis models, GV60 scored highly against the key Euro NCAP assessment criteria. Notably, in the areas of Adult Occupant, Child Occupant, Vulnerable Road Users and Safety Assist. Notably, the GV60 returned excellent results of 89%, 87% and 88% respectively. 

During crash testing, Euro NCAP noted the impact stability and protection afforded by the GV60’s passenger compartment during frontal collisions and the side barrier test, scoring strongly in both areas. The all-electric GV60 was also highly rated for child occupant protection, both for those in child seats and older children. 

Particular praise was reserved for the brand’s patented centre airbag, which can inflate in just 0.03 seconds and helps to protect the driver and front passenger in the event of a side impact. 

In the Safety Assist category, the GV60’s many advanced driver safety systems allowed it to record high scores across the board. For instance, its Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) system attracted top marks for both its effectiveness in avoiding car-to-car collisions and its sensitivity in warning drivers about vulnerable road users, such as cyclists and pedestrians.

The eagerly anticipated Electrified GV70 is the third electric car to be launched by the brand this year, following on from the GV60 and Electrified G80, and was unveiled on the Genesis stand at the world famous British automotive event today by Andrew Pilkington of Genesis Motor UK, and the Duke of Richmond.

To celebrate Electrified GV70’s European unveil at Goodwood Festival of Speed, four short films will go live across the weekend. Using vehicle-to-load (V2L technology) Electrified GV70 is shown powering multiple Goodwood household appliances and assisting with wider estate services – showcasing the innovative technology of the car and the multiple ways in which it can be used. The vehicle-to-load function works by using the car’s battery to supply auxiliary power to electrical devices outside of the car, with an output of up to 220v or 3.6kw – more power than is generated by the average house. The car can become a mobile power bank to supply electricity to anything from gardening equipment and domestic appliances to camping equipment and e-bikes.

Frankfurt, Germany — Last night, Genesis took its first major award win in Europe with the GV80 claiming the Best Luxury SUV at the 2021 Scottish Car of the Year Awards. 

Category winners are voted for by members of the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers (ASMW). The Genesis GV80 beat off stiff competition from well-established luxury car manufacturers, making the award win in its debut year all the more impressive for the luxury Korean brand. 

Hosted at Edinburgh's Dalmahoy Hotel and Country Club, the Scottish Car of the Year awards sees the automotive industry come together to recognise the best new cars of the year. 

This award is the first product win for the brand in Europe and marks a huge milestone for the GV80 and for Genesis. 

The model was commended for its style and performance on-road while the jury felt that it’s full suite of intuitive technology, all-road capability, luxurious interior comfort and comprehensive ownership package pitched it ahead of competitors.

Having launched in early summer, 2021 has been a busy year for the premium luxury Korean brand with no less than five models making their debut in Europe. The GV80 SUV, along with the G80 saloon, were the two debut models available from May with the GV70 SUV and G70 saloon following soon after in June. The G70 Shooting Brake joined the lineup this month. 

Genesis has also pledged to bring three zero-emission powertrains to Europe, with the eagerly anticipated G80 Electrified and the all-new GV60 coming soon. Just last week, the brand revealed the GV70 Electrified at the Guangzhou International Motor Show.

SEOUL, July 9, 2021 — Genesis participates in the 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed, an international car festival held in West Sussex, England from August 8 to 11. It premiered the G70 Shooting Brake, its strategic model for the European market. 

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is one of the UK’s most anticipated annual auto festivals with more than 200,000 visitors every year. It offers a variety of attractions by exhibiting rare classic cars from a different era, the latest supercars, F1 and WRC (World Rally Championship) race cars. 

The G70 Shooting Brake is based on the new G70 sedan released last year, adding an element of practicality with increased trunk space. It highlights the athletic aspect in the balance of ‘Athletic Elegance,’ which is Genesis’ design identity. The G70 Shooting Brake already caught the world’s attention for its new design in May when Genesis released images of the car. 

Genesis will exhibit five models from its lineup at this year’s Goodwood Festival, all of which are set for release in Europe, including the G70 Shooting Brake, G80, GV80, G70 and GV70. It will also host the European debut of the Genesis X Concept, an EV-based GT (Gran Turismo) coupe concept car. 

Genesis holds an event where each of its entire lineup models drive up the steep hill climb course, a unique event at Goodwood. The event will mark the first time in history a single automotive brand has done this at the Goodwood Festival.

FRANKFURT, Germany, June 30, 2021 — Last night, luxury carmaker Genesis created the largest-ever 3D projection of its kind on a mountain in the Swiss Alps, to mark the brand’s arrival in Europe. 

The projection confirmed the car brand’s commitment to changing the way people buy and own cars in Europe, by promising the ‘Genesis Difference’, a set of principles to respect every customer’s time and provide exceptional customer service. These promises were set in stone through the magic of cutting-edge projection technology. 

Lighting up the cliff-face of a mountain near Lauterbrunnen, the spectacular display measured an impressive 275m wide and 180m high and was brought to life via a state-of-the-art 3D projection, seamlessly merging high-tech and nature. 

Media and VIPs witnessed a dazzling show started by the projection of two lines – synonymous with Genesis’ design language – which seemingly broke through the mountain’s surface, bringing the rough canvas of the rockface to life. 

The projection continued with the mountain’s surface intruding, to reveal the impression of a brightly lit space. As anticipation grew, guests were finally able to cast their eyes on images of the Genesis vehicles, appearing on the mountain at around 30 times the size of an average two-story house.

SEOUL, May 12, 2021 — Today, Genesis unveiled the images of the G70 Shooting Brake, a car designed with European customers in mind. 

The G70 Shooting Brake is based on the new G70 sedan that was released last year, adding an element of practicality to the exterior with increased trunk space while maintaining the athletic exterior elements that are indicative of the Genesis design philosophy, ‘Athletic Elegance.' 

The name “Shooting Brake” refers to a car body style that is firmly rooted in the automotive history of Europe, and is a reoccurring theme for manufacturers in the premium luxury sector. 

The G70 Shooting Brake will be an important model for Genesis. As a premium car, it will offer customers greater practicality, especially in Europe, and it will further expand the Genesis lineup to meet various customers’ needs. 

The G70 Shooting Brake is the same size as the new G70, measuring in at 4,685 mm long, 1,850 mm wide and 1,400 mm tall, with a 2,835 mm wheelbase. Meanwhile, the luggage space is 40 percent larger than the G70 sedan and its rear seats can be split-folded in a versatile 4:2:4 format. 

Inheriting its design from the new G70 sedan, the G70 Shooting Brake’s signature Crest Grille is set lower than the Quad Lamps, which spread outward evokes a sprinter’s pre-race posture and highlight the model’s athletic design. 

When viewed from the side, the combination of the single-piece glass hatch that extend to the rear and the “floating type” integral spoiler creates a unique impression to the exterior that communicates the G70 Shooting Brake’s athletic intent. 

At the rear, the trunk, which maximizes space by moving the tailgate hinge forward, embodies the benefits of functional design. The Quad Lamps, which represent the epitome of Genesis' design identity, extend to the surface of the hatch to create a unique impression. 

The G70 Shooting Brake’s interior inherits the driver-focused design of the new G70 sedan, which resembles the cockpit of a fighter jet.

FRANKFURT, Germany — Genesis Motor Europe has revealed details of its 2021 European debut in a press conference held in Frankfurt, Germany, and broadcast online. It will start sales this summer, for customers in the UK, Germany and Switzerland. 

The premium luxury Korean brand, which celebrated its fifth anniversary last November, arrives in Europe with a promise to place exceptional customer service over sales through its ‘Genesis difference’. With one transparent price walk for all its models and a five-year care plan with no hidden extras, it will sell direct to the public both online and through Genesis Studios in coveted locations. The first Studios will open in London, Munich and Zurich. 

Pivotal to the brand experience will be the appointment of a Genesis Personal Assistant, recruited from hospitality and retail sectors, who will manage every aspect of their buying and ownership experience to respect the greatest luxury of all – time.

A further two battery electric cars – one built on a dedicated electric platform – will also be launched within the first year in Europe as part of the product roll-out.   

Arriving in Europe in 2021 

Genesis will arrive in Europe in summer 2021. Launching initially in Germany, Switzerland and the UK as part of a phased introduction across the region. 

Genesis will operate an omnichannel approach, offering direct sales online and across three retail Studios located in the centre of London, Munich and Zurich. To achieve this the brand has developed a range of easy-to-use digital tools including an online configurator and all-new e-commerce platform; simplified vehicle specification and options to deliver great value; and a range of subscription options from launch.

Genesis G80 and GV80 

Available first will be the all-new Genesis G80 sedan and Genesis GV80 SUV. 

Defined by their symbolic Two Lines design theme, both models are expressions of Athletic Elegance, the Genesis design philosophy that strives to achieve the perfect balance between two opposing characteristics. 

Distinctive signature Genesis design elements are carefully applied to both sedan and SUV. The trademark design cues of the Two-Lined Quad Lamps and the striking Crest Grille, combine to give a modern but imposing look. 

Benefiting from sophisticated LED lighting technology, the Quad Lamp graphic is a unique signature of Genesis design, communicating the brand’s distinct identity. 

Inspired by the ‘Beauty of White Space’ concept employed in traditional Korean architecture, the Genesis G80 and GV80 balance elegant premium design with spaciousness and state-of-the-art technology. Through careful use of the G-Matrix Pattern’s stylistic signature, and unrivalled craftsmanship, the interior of both sedan and SUV comfortably meets the demands of an active and connected lifestyle. 

As a commitment to the region, and to meet the needs of European customers, the G80 and GV80 have been tuned for European roads at the brand’s European development facility. 

Both models have been carefully designed, developed, and tested specifically for the region with tens of thousands of kilometers covered across 15 countries on some of Europe’s toughest and challenging roads, and of course, the Nürburgring circuit. 

On the road to electrification 

The Electrified G80 will be the first all-electric Genesis to arrive in Europe. A further two battery electric cars will follow, providing European customers with a choice of three Genesis zero emission cars within the first year; one of which will be built on a dedicated electric platform.

Based at the company’s new regional Headquarters in Germany, Boesch will take up the role on October 1, 2020, and report directly to Jaehoon (Jay) Chang, Global Head of the Genesis Brand, who is based in Seoul. 

“Since our 2015 brand launch in Korea, Genesis has received an overwhelming global response for both its confident product lineup and dedicated customer experience. With rapid global growth, we will expand our business to Europe in the near future,” said Mr. Chang. “It is our intention that the design, technology and quality of our cars will speak for the brand. This is a critical market for Genesis and I look forward to Mr. Boesch, with his substantial European and premium expertise, bringing the Genesis story to life in Europe.” 

Dominique Boesch joins from Audi AG where, over a twenty-year tenure, he held the role of Sales Director in France before serving as Managing Director in Korea, Japan and China, respectively. After more than 10 years in Asia, Boesch returned to headquarters as head of European sales and, most recently, he was leading the brand’s future Global Retail Strategy. 

“I feel privileged and excited to join Genesis Motor Europe and bring an ambitious Korean contender to the region,” explained Boesch. “The brand will stand out through dynamic design, athletic performance, truly premium customer service and a driving experience tailored to European roads. Europe is the spiritual home of the premium car market and I am certain that the Genesis models we plan to launch here will be a pleasant surprise to many.” 

The appointment is the latest in a series of strategic hires for Genesis Motor Europe as the premium Asian brand gears up to replicate the success it has enjoyed in markets around the globe. Launched by Hyundai Motor Group, one of the World’s largest automotive groups, Genesis Motor Europe will benefit from over 50 years of automotive excellence – with a pedigree in design and powertrain expertise and, presently, as an electrified platform leader.

“Filippo’s vast experience with European luxury brands makes him an ideal fit to lead the Genesis Advanced Design Studio, and his insight will be instrumental for the development of each of our upcoming projects including both advanced and production designs,” said Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Design Officer of Hyundai Motor Group. “His strongest skill is interpreting a brand’s essence and presenting ideas to consumers in well-edited, timeless executions.” 

Perini is a seasoned, world-class designer who has spent decades shaping high-performance vehicles on behalf of premium and luxury brands alike. Perini earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and master’s degree in automotive design from Politecnico di Milano. He has worked for major automakers, including Alfa Romeo, Audi and Lamborghini. Most recently, Perini was the Head of Design and Design Innovation at Italdesign.
