SEOUL, Aug. 13, 2026 — Genesis has unveiled its next-generation hybrid system, engineered to deliver an electric vehicle (EV)-like driving experience.

Developed to provide customers with a refined electrified driving experience befitting the Genesis brand, the next-generation hybrid system will debut in the GV80 Hybrid, which is scheduled to launch next month.

The Genesis 2.5 Turbo Hybrid System adopts a parallel hybrid configuration consisting of a starter-generator motor (P1), which handles engine starting and power generation, and a drive motor (P2), which provides propulsion and regenerative braking.

The 2.5 Turbo Hybrid System featured in the Genesis GV80 Hybrid delivers a combined maximum output of 352 Pferdestärke and maximum torque of 54.0 kilogram-force meters, representing increases of approximately 16% and 26%, respectively, over the GV80 2.5 Turbo model.

With these advancements, the GV80 Hybrid delivers a 0–100 kilometers per hour acceleration time of approximately 7.1 seconds from a standstill, based on internal testing standards.

Based on internal testing of the five-seat GV80 equipped with 19-inch wheels and two-wheel drive, combined fuel efficiency improved by approximately 25% or more compared to the 2.5 Turbo powertrain, enabling more efficient driving. *

The Genesis 2.5 Turbo Hybrid System is also the first hybrid system from Hyundai Motor Group to feature a liquid-cooled hybrid battery system.

Compared to an air-cooled system, the liquid-cooled battery system enables more efficient temperature management, allowing for higher maximum discharge output and more extensive use of the battery’s available power.

By expanding electric motor engagement across a broader range of driving conditions, the Genesis 2.5 Turbo Hybrid System delivers quieter operation and smooth, linear acceleration, creating a driving experience closer to that of an EV.

To minimize vibration and noise caused by engine operation during a cold start after the vehicle has been parked, Genesis developed the system to make active use of its EV Mode from initial departure until the vehicle reaches approximately 30 kilometers per hour.

This enables the vehicle to move in EV Mode in noise-sensitive environments such as underground parking garages. Once the vehicle enters regular road traffic and exceeds a certain speed, the engine engages, allowing occupants to begin their journey in a quieter and more comfortable environment.

Genesis has also optimized the system to maximize the use of EV Mode on urban roads with frequent traffic lights and during stop-and-go traffic, further enhancing the overall driving experience.

In addition, Genesis lowered the Final Drive Gear Ratio (FGR) — the reduction ratio between the transmission and the wheels — compared to the 2.5 Turbo model to reduce drivetrain noise.

The luxury marque also introduced a new engine crankshaft damper pulley technology designed to reduce both torsional and bending vibrations, helping to minimize engine noise transmitted into the cabin. A Centrifugal Pendulum Absorber (CPA) damper has also been applied to the new seven-speed rear-wheel-drive transmission to counteract engine rotational vibrations with opposing-phase forces, further enhancing cabin comfort.

Another key feature of the Genesis 2.5 Turbo Hybrid System is its immediate acceleration response, which is similar to that of an EV.

When the driver depresses the accelerator firmly while driving in EV Mode, the system simultaneously performs a downshift and engine clutch engagement, allowing the engine to provide immediate, additional acceleration.

According to internal testing, when the accelerator is depressed while traveling 100 kilometers per hour, the system can resume acceleration approximately 18% faster than the 2.5 gasoline turbo model — delivering responsive performance in situations such as overtaking.

Genesis has also optimized the transmission architecture by enabling the vehicle to reverse using the P2 motor rotating in the opposite direction. This eliminates the need for components associated with a dedicated reverse gear in the transmission. The first-gear ratio has also been set higher to efficiently transmit power from the P2 motor to the wheels while reversing.

The resulting reduction in transmission weight and frictional components improves power transmission efficiency. At the same time, the higher first-gear ratio enhances acceleration performance when pulling away from a standstill.

The Genesis 2.5 Turbo Hybrid System also incorporates a range of hybrid-specific features, including Stay Mode, Hierarchical Predictive Control (HPC) and Smart Regenerative Braking.

Stay Mode uses the high-voltage battery to operate all in-vehicle comfort and convenience functions, including climate control and multimedia systems without starting the engine. This allows occupants to remain comfortable inside the stationary vehicle before and after a journey.

Hybrid HPC predicts the driving route and road conditions to the destination and optimally manages the battery’s state of charge. This allows the system to select and operate the most efficient driving mode, including EV Mode, Hybrid Mode and Regenerative Braking Mode.

Smart Regenerative Braking uses navigation data (including speed-camera information) and the distance to vehicles ahead to automatically determine and apply the optimal level of regenerative braking. By reducing the need for brake pedal input, the system helps reduce driver fatigue while increasing the amount of energy recovered through regenerative braking — contributing to improved fuel efficiency.

Genesis also unveiled the design of the upcoming GV80 Hybrid. The GV80 Hybrid features a newly designed exterior grille and wheels, giving the model an even more premium appearance.

Inside, four new two-tone color combinations have been introduced, including Obsidian Black with Taiga Green, and Ultramarine Blue with Travertine Beige. Two new real wood trim options are also available, together with new quilting patterns, offering customers a wider range of interior choices.

First Stop: Dosan Seowon
Location: 154 Dosanseowon-gil, Andong, North Gyeongsang Province

En route to Andong is the most recognized of Korea’s nine UNESCO World Heritage historical sites, Dosan Seowon.  “Seowon” is the Korean term for a Confucian academy. An image of Dosan Seowon can be found the 1,000 won bill alongside Yi Hwang, the philosopher who built it in 1576 during the Joseon dynasty. Yi Hwang was also known by his pen name “Toegye,” meaning “Retreating Creek,” and is commonly regarded as one of the most important philosophers in Korean history.

The GV80 delivers exceptional performance and handling, making it an ideal choice for navigating winding mountain roads. Location: 1164-1 Hahoe Village, Pungcheon-myeon, Andong, North Gyeongsang Province

Andong Hahoe Folk Village is one of the most well-preserved historical clan villages on the Korean peninsula. Built in the 14^th and 15^th centuries, the location and layout of the village is said to be determined according to Confucian values to receive both physical and spiritual vigor from the surrounding landscape.

Across the river to the north is a large cliff, called Buyongdae Cliff, and to the east is a grove of trees called “Mansongjeong,” or “The Grove of Ten Thousand Pines,” specifically planted by government official Unyong Ryu during the Joseon Dynasty to serve as a windbreak for the village.

Third Stop: Byeongsan Seowon
Location: 386 Byeongsan-gil, Pungcheon-myeon, Andong, North Gyeongsang Province

Just a few kilometers upriver from Andong Hahoe Folk Village lies another renowned Confucian academy, Byeongsan Seowon. This location is famous for its intentional design as an empty space to inspire reflection and learning. It also houses about 3,000 books, including a collection written by Yu Songnyong, a noted scholar of the Joseon period.

The main feature of this seowon is Mandaeru pavilion. The pavilion was designed simply, with only few pillars and a roof, to maximize the view of the surrounding natural beauty. This minimalism was intentional, as the beauty of empty space is deeply rooted in Confucian thought. Genesis practices a similar philosophy when designing the interiors of its vehicles, the “Beauty of White Space,” which emphasizes simplicity and elegance.

Fourth Stop: Gunja Village
Location: 33-6 Gunjari-gil, Waryong-myeon, Andong, North Gyeongsang Province

Andong preserves not just Confucian academies, but historical (and delicious) cuisine. A few kilometers north of the city is Gunja Village. It is the current home of a famous cookbook older than the nearby academies, as it was written in 1540, the early Joseon era, by the scholar Yu Kim. The name of the book, “Suunjapbang,” translates to “ways of making food fit for a man of refined taste.” This historic treasure has weathered countless challenges over the centuries to find its way to Yu Kim’s descendant, Doeun Kim, the head of Seolwoldang Hall, where she still uses the recipes today.

On a neatly set table in Seolwoldang Hall, dishes described in the first chapter of Suunjapbang are beautifully presented: “Samhaeju,” a traditional liquor, accompanies the vibrantly colored Three-Color Fish Egg Soup, which is the only hotpot dish in Korea made with freshwater fish. It is a mixture of sweetfish, shrimp, mung bean jelly and small rice cake balls made by coating sweetfish meat in mung bean flour. When warmed by the hotpot, these ingredients pair perfectly with the strong liquor – a comforting meal for a chilly season, soothing both body and soul.

Andong is also well-known for its own type of soju, a popular Korean liquor. Andong-style soju is a 45 percent ABV spirit distilled from wheat that originated during the Silla period. It pairs well with “jjimdak,” the region’s most famous dish: chicken, vegetable and glass noodles braised in a pan with soy sauce, garlic and chili peppers.

Fifth Stop: Woryeonggyo Bridge
Location: 569 Sanga-dong, Andong, North Gyeongsang Province

Just northeast and upriver of Andong is Woryeonggyo Bridge — arguably one of the most beautiful sights in Korea. It is the longest wooden bridge on the peninsula, stretching 387 meters. There is a pavilion at the bridge’s halfway point. During late autumn, as the temperature variations grow, early morning mist often hovers over the water. At night, the bridge is festooned with lights that dance along the lake’s surface.

Sixth Stop: Andongho Lake
Location: 437-7 Wolcheon-gil, Andong, North Gyeongsang Province

Andongho Lake is a man-made reservoir created by the construction of Andong Dam in 1976. Located east and upriver of Andong, it offers breathtaking views with the tranquil scenery of trees and mountains along its shoreline and mists that converge over the lake in late autumn mornings.

The U.S. News & World Report Best Vehicle Brand Awards evaluate 39 automotive brands across six key segments, including cars, SUVs, trucks, and luxury vehicles. To determine the award winners, U.S. News Best Cars averaged the overall score of all the given brand's products in each award class. The vehicle scores are derived from the U.S. News Best Cars rankings, which take into account a range of data points like safety ratings and reliability data, as well as the consensus opinion of the automotive press. The brand with the highest average score was designated the winner in that specific category. Genesis earned top honors in the luxury category for its consistently high ratings in quality, comfort, and innovation.

SEOUL, Nov. 19, 2025 — True luxury isn’t just about sophisticated design and cutting-edge technology; it’s about safety. More than a luxury vehicle, Genesis is a sanctuary where advanced safety features and exceptional craftsmanship come together to create an elevated driving experience.

Several of the marque’s models have been independently recognized for their safety features, passing the most strenuous safety testing with flying colors. Most recently, six Genesis models were recognized for their excellent safety performance by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). 

Independently Recognized

The IIHS awarded the 2025 GV60, 2025-26 GV70 (built after April 2024), 2025-26 Electrified GV70, 2026 G80 (built after June 2025) and 2025 GV80 models the 2025 TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) rating. IIHS also awarded the 2025 Genesis G90 the 2025 TOP SAFETY PICK (TSP) rating. IIHS awards only apply to U.S. models.

But what is the IIHS and what do these ratings mean? The IIHS is an independent, nonprofit scientific and educational organization dedicated to reducing deaths, injuries and property damage from motor vehicle crashes through research and evaluation and through education of consumers, policymakers and safety professionals.

Based on a vehicle’s performance in crashworthiness tests (small overlap front, moderate overlap front: updated test, and side: updated test) as well as crash avoidance and mitigation tests (headlights and front crash prevention: pedestrian), the IIHS assigns a rating for each test.

To qualify for 2025 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK, a vehicle must earn good ratings in the small overlap front and updated side tests and an acceptable rating in the updated moderate overlap front test. It also must earn an acceptable or good rating for pedestrian front crash prevention and come with standard acceptable- or good-rated headlights.

Earning the 2025 IIHS TSP and TSP+ awards positively promotes Genesis’ reputation as a manufacturer of safe vehicles in the U.S. market. This is because American consumers trust the IIHS’s scientific and systematic safety evaluation methods. 

Raising Safety Standards

Earning these ratings is becoming increasingly challenging, as the IIHS’s evaluation standards have become more stringent over the past few years. In 2023, IIHS increased the weight and speed it uses in the side impact test. The same year, a nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention evaluation was added. In 2025, IIHS updated the criteria to earn the 2025 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK awards, including the requirement of better protection for second-row occupants.

Genesis welcomed the new, tougher criteria and stepped up to the plate. A total of six Genesis models earned the coveted 2025 IIHS TSP and TSP+ ratings under the more stringent IIHS regulations in 2025 — the 2025 GV60, 2025-26 GV70 (built after April 2024), 2025-26 Electrified GV70, 2026 G80 (built after June 2025), 2025 GV80, and 2025 Genesis G90. IIHS awards only apply to U.S. models.

However, over in Europe, Genesis has also won top honors from the European New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP). The Genesis G70, GV70, G80 and GV80 won “5-star” NCAP ratings in 2021, and the Genesis GV60 received a 5-star rating from NCAP in 2022.

Beyond Just Crash Testing

Genesis vehicles do well in independent safety evaluations because they are a part of a rigorous and comprehensive Group-level culture of safety technology development and testing. Before Hyundai Motor Group even releases a new model or submits it for outside testing, it tests it in-house at its R&D Center in Namyang, a 40,000-square-meter facility specifically designed and built in 2005 for thorough safety testing.

Within the Center, the Group spends about 4,000 hours and $7 million to run approximately 100 crash tests involving 27 different types of crash test dummies to make sure each new car model has the highest possible level of crash safety. The crash tests are only a small part of the safety testing process; most of the time is taken up in analyzing the crash results to extract meaningful insights. This data, combined with real-world accident reports from national highway and safety organizations worldwide, is used to develop and refine safety features, including innovations like the world’s first composite crash airbag developed by the automaker in 2019.

The result of all this testing is a comprehensive suite of preventative technologies that work together to reduce the likelihood of accidents. Here are some of the most notable safety technologies that can be found in Genesis vehicles:

Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA):  Uses a combination of radar and front-facing cameras to scan the road ahead for vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and even oncoming traffic at intersections. If a potential collision is detected, the system issues visual and audible warnings to alert the driver. If the driver does not react to the warning sounds, FCA can apply partial or full braking to either mitigate or entirely avoid impact.

Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA): Uses radar sensors on the rear corners to monitor adjacent lanes for approaching traffic. If a vehicle is detected, a warning light appears in the side mirror and an alert sounds inside the cabin. If the driver ignores the warning and attempts a lane change anyway, the system can gently steer the vehicle back into its lane or, in some situations, apply selective braking to prevent a collision.

Advanced Airbags: Vehicles made by Genesis include 8-10 different airbags to protect passengers in a variety of potential collisions. Front airbags exist for both the driver and front passenger. Also included on the driver’s side is a driver’s knee airbag to prevent leg injuries in a head-on collision. Side airbags inflate between the driver and the door, and between the passenger and the door, to prevent injuries from side impact collisions. Between the driver and front passenger is also a center side airbag that pops in between the two seats, reducing the chance of first-row occupants hitting each other’s heads or other objects in the event of a side collision. Only 10 car models in the U.S. have this type of safety measure installed. There are also two rollover curtain airbags that deploy from both sides of the roof rails above the front and rear doors that further protect the heads of occupants in the car in the event of side impact collisions. They also deploy if a rollover is detected in models that have rollover sensors.

SEOUL, October 15, 2025 — Hyundai Motor Group (the Group) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the APEC Preparatory Office under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide official vehicles for the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting, set to take place in Gyeongju, Korea from October 31 to November 1.

About 200 vehicles will be deployed, including 113 Genesis G90 sedans, 74 Genesis G80 sedans, three Universe hydrogen electric buses, and two mobile office buses. The vehicles will be used as protocol vehicles and for operational support during the meeting, as well as at various related events beforehand.

The APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, returning to Korea after 20 years since the 2005 meeting in Busan, will bring together leaders and representatives from 21 member economies discussing key issues in trade, diplomacy, and sustainable development under the theme “Building a Sustainable Tomorrow: Connect, Innovate, Prosper.”

Genesis earned the top Innovation Index score by offering a range of advanced technologies across its product lineup. This represents the fifth year in a row that Genesis took top honors in the U.S. TXI study. The Genesis GV80 SUV was awarded best connected vehicle technology for a phone-based digital key, known as Genesis Digital Key 2, in the premium category.

The TXI Study measures the effectiveness of emerging technologies automotive brands bring to market on a 1,000-point scale. The index combines the level of adoption of new technologies for each brand with excellence in execution. The measurement of execution examines how much owners like the technologies and how many problems they experience using them.

The TXI Study analyzes 40 technologies divided into five categories: comfort & convenience, driver assist, electric vehicle, connected vehicle, and smart vehicle.

1. Genesis Essentia Concept

The Essentia Concept is a grand tourer (GT) concept that boldly expanded the boundaries of Genesis’ design philosophy. Revealed at the New York International Auto Show in March 2018, it marked Genesis’ debut into the electric vehicle (EV)-based high-performance GT segment as the brand’s first battery EV. This concept car embodied the vision of a cutting-edge, all-electric luxury coupé. More than just a design study, the Essentia was a statement of intent, demonstrating Genesis’ ambition to create thrilling, beautiful EVs that blend advanced technology with passionate and progressive design.

The Essentia Concept’s exterior masterfully reinterpreted Genesis’ “Athletic Elegance” design philosophy, featuring a carbon-fiber monocoque with a sleek, aerodynamic silhouette and a low roofline, long hood and swept-back cabin. These elements are connected by the iconic Parabolic Line that gracefully runs along the shoulder of the car through to the muscular rear wheel arches. Dramatic butterfly doors enable effortless and elegant access to the vehicle. The rear of the car features an aerodynamic cut-off surface that houses the flush rear quad lamps and emphasizes the muscles of the rear haunch.

Inside, the cabin’s underlying design theory maximizes the connection between the car and driver. A mixed-material approach influenced by high fashion and classic color combinations includes cognac leather seats with chevron quilting. The driver and front seat passenger are divided by a slim center console covered in Oxford Blue leather that bisects the cabin. In front of the driver is an 8-inch widescreen display with piano black surround that displays only the information that is necessary for driving.

2. Genesis Mint Concept

The Mint Concept, unveiled at the 2019 New York International Auto Show in April, reimagined the concept of a luxury urban EV. The compact two-door, two-seater concept – a new typology – was designed for contemporary urban metropolises and demonstrated that luxury is not linked to size. The Mint Concept emphasized lightweight design and an intelligent, efficient electric powertrain, showcasing Genesis’ ability to think beyond traditional luxury segments and address future urban mobility needs.

With its clean, elegant surfaces, the organic exterior design is characterized by restraint and refinement. Features like the quad lamps that transport the brand’s Two Lines signature, G-Matrix graphics and Parabolic Line were carried over into production vehicles later. It is painted in Hunter Green matte, a nod towards traditional luxury cars, but more modern and fashionable. The most distinctive aspect is its innovative scissor-style openings that give side access to a generous parcel shelf in lieu of a traditional trunk. This design was created to facilitate loading the car in a more logical fashion, from the sidewalk, without blocking the walkway or needing to go around the back of the vehicle.

The interior was one of the first instances where the company showcased its “Beauty of White Space” interior design philosophy. Derived from a Korean aesthetic in which design is pared back and minimalistic, it brings a sense of calmness and expansiveness to the cabin. This is accomplished by structuring the interior to feel like a living space through craftsmanship, using lightweight textiles, cognac leather and mullion-free windows. Additionally, the center console can be folded, making the floating front bench into a settee. A small gauge cluster sits within the steering wheel further amplifying the feeling of space, while six small, copper-lined touchscreen readouts allow instinctive commands without losing sight of the road or contact with the steering wheel.

3. Genesis X Trilogy

The X Trilogy, revealed one at a time in succession, comprises the X Concept, the X Speedium Coupe Concept and the X Convertible Concept. This captivating trio celebrated Genesis’ Athletic Elegance design language in diverse forms, emphasizing the brand’s design capabilities and future direction for electric GTs. The “X” stands for “hidden hero” and the exploration of various potential designs for the brand.

X Concept

Revealed in March 2021, the X Concept is a high-performance GT concept that maximizes the use of the brand’s signature Two Lines design elements. The front of the X Concept features a low yet broad silhouette thanks to the combination of the shield-shaped Crest Grille and the Two-Line headlamps, which cut through the wheel arch. The car’s unique color, Lençóis Blue, was inspired by the lagoons of the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park in Brazil, which form into a lake during the rainy season, and was developed to express the level of sustainable luxury that Genesis pursues.

Inspired by the Beauty of White Space, the concept’s interior features a driver-oriented design, with a cockpit that surrounds the driver with all operating systems and displays. The space is further differentiated by coloring the driver’s seat scotch brown and the passenger seat an ocean wave green blue, which helps emphasize the concept car’s unique design. The entire interior is also made with upcycled materials that add unique character and highlight the concept’s eco-friendliness. The Two Lines design theme appears in the slim and indirect air vents that surround passengers, as well as the side window molding, and provides a sense of unity with the exterior design.

X Speedium Coupe Concept

The X Speedium Coupe Concept, revealed at Genesis House New York in April 2022, emphasized Genesis’ continued exploration of high-performance EVs with a unique and emotionally resonant design. The concept was born out of a freestyle design exercise that previewed what prospective owners of Genesis could expect from the marque’s next wave of EVs. The name Speedium was inspired by the passion for motorsports that was felt by Genesis designers at the Korean racetrack of the same name. It also encapsulates Genesis’ belief that passion for driving will remain strong in the era of electrification.

The X Speedium Coupe Concept inherited the timeless Athletic Elegance design philosophy of Genesis in an even more progressive way. While still a GT, its design hinted at future performance aspirations, as the Parabolic Line extending from the front to the rear of the car maintains a certain tension in the design. The deliberate “anti-wedge” design culminates in a streamlined look that exudes understated elegance.

On the front of the vehicle, Genesis’ signature Two Lines lamps have evolved into a full-width element that encompasses the shape of the crest resembling the Genesis Crest Grille. It was designed to carry the brand signature for the electrification era by integrating the daytime running lamps with the low beam and high beam together.

The concept’s metallic emerald green exterior shade is officially called “Inje Green” and references the mountainous landscape where its namesake Korean racetrack is located.

The interior remains conceptual, focusing on the connection between driver and vehicle. Its two-tone interior clearly distinguishes the passenger space from the driver’s cockpit, set in “Pinegrove Green,” which perfectly complements the car’s exterior color.

X Convertible Concept

The X Convertible Concept was unveiled in November 2022. The crowning third concept in the trilogy, the X Convertible Concept materialized the brand’s Athletic Elegance design language in its purest form yet. Sharing its architecture and electric powertrain with the X Concept and X Speedium Coupe Concept, the car’s ideal proportions are complemented by design purity and exemplify the continued refinement in orchestrating design elements that make up the company’s design language. The X Convertible Concept reinforced Genesis’ commitment to emotionally evocative design and its ability to translate its luxury aesthetic into various body styles, including a captivating convertible.

Sharing the athletic proportions, Parabolic Line and Two-Line headlamps of its coupe counterparts, its exterior also has muscular blisters around the wheels that form an athletic Coke bottle plan view and integrate into an elegant silhouette when viewed from the side. Its long bonnet, generous dash-to-axle, short front overhang and long wheelbase are drawn rearwards towards the long deck, accentuating its stately yet relaxed poise. The Genesis X Convertible Concept's exterior is painted in Crane White. White cranes represent nobility and sanctity in Korea and Genesis wanted to weave these cultural elements into its colorways. The result is an exterior surface coated in white with pearl particles, achieving a luxurious sheen that dynamically frames the contrasting interior.

The interior features Giwa Navy and Dancheong Orange colors, which lend the cabin a modern look and feel, befitting the car’s vibrant character. These colors are inspired by Korean traditional roof architecture, a nod to both the brand’s origins as well as the most important aspect of convertibles. Giwa Navy takes its shade from the distinctive “giwa” dark roof tiles used on many traditional Korean buildings, while the inspiration for Dancheong Orange is one of the complementing shades of the decorative colorings, or “dancheong,” also found on traditional Korean wooden buildings. The latter serves as a bold accent color, encircling the cabin in a two-line motif and featuring on the stitching of the seats and fabric.

4. Genesis GV80 Coupe Concept

The GV80 Coupe Concept, unveiled at Genesis House New York in April 2023, combines the practicality of a lifestyle-oriented SUV with the dynamism of a sports car. It was a statement of intent for more emotionally resonant, performance-oriented models and a preview of Genesis’ future direction. The GV80 Coupe Concept promised a dynamic and stylish alternative for Genesis enthusiasts, combining practicality with a strong dose of performance-oriented design.

This concept expertly blends the robust and commanding stance of an SUV with the sleek, sloping roofline characteristic of a coupe. It was the first Genesis concept to appear with a solid orange exterior color, which symbolizes the confident and passionate attitude of Korea. It also features a more aggressive front fascia sporting a double G-Matrix-patterned Crest Grille surrounded by quad lamps, which pair well with the unique five-spoke forged aluminum wheels and carbon fiber roof. All these design elements contribute to the concept’s dynamic driving qualities by lowering the center of gravity, emphasizing the vehicle’s sporty character.

The interior is a contrast between Genesis’ elegant Beauty of White Space philosophy and athletic attributes. It includes a three-spoke steering wheel, which emphasizes the sportiness of the GV80 Coupe Concept and contrasts with the black Nappa and suede leather with plaid double stitching, orange piping and carbon fiber weaves on the functional surfaces. The four bucket seats provide increased body support during cornering, contributing to passenger safety and comfort.

5. Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Concept and Genesis X Gran Racer Vision Gran Turismo (VGT) Concept

The X Gran Berlinetta Concept and the X Gran Racer VGT Concept delved deeper into Genesis’ performance aspirations and commitment to motorsports-inspired design, particularly within the digital realm. The Orange color of both concepts embodies Genesis’ high-performance spirit of Magma.

X Gran Berlinetta Concept

This stunning virtual race car was first designed specifically for the Gran Turismo video game series. Unveiled at the Gran Turismo World Series Finals in Barcelona in December 2023, it pushed the boundaries of automotive design with its extreme proportions, active aerodynamic features and a clear focus on track performance.

The X Gran Berlinetta Concept’s exterior embodies the most emotionally resonant expression of the Genesis brand’s characteristic Athletic Elegance design philosophy. Its design is pure and muscular with volumes centered around the wheels, emphasizing the cab-backwards proportions with Genesis’ typical anti-wedge attitude that is structured around a virtual parabolical tensioned theory common to the company’s lineup. Its dramatic lines and functional aerodynamics were originally conceived to dominate virtual racetracks.

X Gran Racer VGT Concept

A derivative of the earlier revealed Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Concept, this was the brand’s fourth vehicle developed for the Gran Turismo digital racing game series.

It has distinctive active aerodynamic flaps that are electronically controlled for precise adjustments to enhance the car’s aerodynamic qualities and road-holding capabilities, while the flat underbody design further reduces drag and improves vehicle stability. Additional aerodynamic enhancements include a front splitter, rear diffuser, strategically placed canards on the front fascia and a more aggressive rocker panel. The design also features the marque’s signature Parabolic Line that extends from the front to rear, which results in a timeless proportion that epitomizes Genesis’ aesthetic. Its iconic silhouette is filled out by voluminous fenders and a real carbon rear wing, giving it a look that exudes an aura of dynamism and raw power.

The distinctions recognize the G80's exceptional design, innovative technology and refined performance following rigorous evaluation alongside a competitive lineup of leading sedans and SUVs by TAWA's seasoned journalists.

The newly redesigned 2025 G80 exemplifies Genesis' “Athletic Elegance” design language with a new front and rear fascia, Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology in the iconic Two-Line headlamps and a meticulously crafted interior. Over 20 journalists from across Texas tested a variety of vehicles in their respective categories. Votes were based on each vehicle’s interior and exterior quality, value, performance and overall personal appeal. The votes were submitted electronically, calculated by an independent accounting firm and presented to TAWA for the award announcement.

In Canada, Genesis owners like Robert and Doug cite the brand’s “white-glove” offerings as a vital component of their Son-nim experience.

A key highlight of these perks is none other than the tailored concierge service, which allows potential customers to arrange an at-home test drive and delivery to a location of their choice. So far, owning a Genesis has been nothing but wonderful, he says.

“My job is extremely busy and stressful, and I find when I have that transition time from leaving the office to home, getting in the comfort of my car is a wonderful experience,” he says. “The ride is the quietest ride I’ve ever had.”

The Genesis G70, the G80, the Electrified G80, the G90, the GV70, the Electrified GV70 and the GV80 were named as winners in their respective categories after editors carefully tested, evaluated and scrutinized nearly 500 vehicles on the market today.

It was just as Jacky Ickx remembered from 42 years ago, when the Belgian racing legend drove to victory at the 1983 Dakar Rally. 

Ickx, a Genesis Brand Partner, was back at the grueling off-road race, but this time as an “honorary guest” in the newly built Genesis GV80 Desert Edition. 

For two weeks, Ickx tracked 6,000 kilometers out of the nearly 8,000-kilometer Dakar route in Saudi Arabia, journeying from Bisha to Shubaytah and stopping at each bivouac along the way to connect with young racers and share his insights.

From conception to realization, here’s how it all unfolded.

Development of the GV80 Desert Edition spanned several months in 2024 and was executed in partnership with the auto company W Motors, headquartered in Dubai.

Genesis Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke, center, led the project, ensuring that the brand’s dedication to “Athletic Elegance” was well-demonstrated in the vehicle’s enhanced performance capabilities.

The vehicle was presented to Ickx on Dec. 30, 2024, at Genesis Wallan Showroom in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in celebration of his 80th birthday, which took place two days later.

In honor of his birthday, the Dakar organizer also gifted Ickx with an “E80” sticker.

“I’m proud to be a part of this remarkable project,” Ickx said as he signed the engine cover, just days before he would finally put the vehicle to the test.

Behind the wheel, one of the first things Ickx noticed was how aggressive it was. The enhanced front lighting system, upgraded adjustable suspension and all-terrain tires quickly became his favorite features.

Ickx was later joined by his daughter Vanina, a former racing driver herself, midway through the rally.

It wasn’t the father-and-daughter’s first time at the event. Together they participated in the 2000 Paris-Dakar-Cairo Rally, which memory they both hold dear to this day.

“The GV80 Desert Edition calls for adventure, yet with an undeniable touch of elegance and comfort,” said the younger Ickx. “From the distinctive wheels to the remote-controlled lamp rack on the roof that illuminates the desert, the vehicle is really full of curiosity, audacity and performance.”

After an exhausting 6,000 kilometers, the journey was finally over. Once again, Genesis demonstrated its fearlessness, Ickx thought. “They make everything happen for the sheer pleasure of their customers," he said. "They are never afraid.”

More than four decades on from his historic win at the 1983 Dakar, Ickx returned to the desert behind the wheel of the bespoke all-terrain GV80. Created by Genesis in celebration of the legendary racing driver and Genesis Brand Partner for his 80th birthday, the GV80 Desert Edition was unveiled during an exclusive handover ceremony at Genesis Wallan Showroom in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Dec 31. An “E80” sticker was also gifted to Ickx by Dakar organizers that day in honor of his birthday.

Designed to bring Genesis’ signature luxurious onboard experience to the most extreme conditions, the GV80 Desert Edition is inspired by Ickx’s pioneering spirit and relentless passion for adventure. Based on Genesis’ flagship SUV, the desert edition features a comprehensively enhanced offroad specification to deliver style, resilience and elevated performance, retaining the GV80’s effortless convenience and unrivalled comfort.

Ickx and the GV80 Desert Edition immediately embarked on their first adventure, tracking the 6,000-kilometer route of Dakar 2025 from Bisha to Shubaytah, with Ickx joining the competitive teams at each bivouac along the way.

Immediately recognizable by its wider, purposeful stance, the GV80 Desert Edition’s arches are extended by 40 millimeters at the front and rear to accommodate bespoke 20-inch forged alloy bead-rock wheels and all-terrain tires. 

A comprehensively upgraded adjustable suspension system has been specifically engineered for desert conditions, providing maximum ground clearance, superior damping, and enhanced stability on soft sand and rocky trails. 

A dedicated desert setting is also accessible through the GV80’s Intelligent Drive Mode system, optimizing the powertrain for the most demanding conditions, underlining the desert edition’s performance credentials. 

Elegance and Resilience 

At the front, Genesis’ advanced Intelligent Front Lighting System is enhanced with a Baja Designs-integrated lighting system, incorporating LED auxiliary lights on the fog lights, A-pillars, and roof to offer exceptional visibility. As well as accommodating an LED light bar, the custom roof rack includes mounts for fuel canisters, sandboards and a rooftop tent. 

The desert edition’s unique blue bodywork and single white stripe livery also pay tribute to Ickx, honoring the iconic race helmet colors worn throughout his career.

The GV80 Desert Edition’s interior balances adventure-ready utility with Genesis’ signature onboard entertainment and convenience features. 

In the cargo area, an integrated drawer system now securely stores a full-size spare wheel, tools and essential emergency equipment, with additional compartments for water supplies, first aid kits and communication devices. 

An Enduring Collaboration 

Approaching his second year as Genesis Brand Partner, Ickx’s phenomenal racing achievements and pioneering spirit position him as the perfect ambassador. The partnership continues to evolve as Genesis expands into high-performance models and motorsports, drawing on his illustrious racing career to offer strategic insights. 

At the recent launch of Genesis Magma Racing in Dubai, Jacky Ickx was announced as the team’s official racing advisor. The new role will complement his existing duties, encompassing brand ambassador, diplomat and advisor to the development of Genesis cars. 

The Genesis GV80 Desert Edition project was managed by Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer of Genesis, built in partnership with Genesis Middle East and renowned customization specialist W Motors. 

That's how Minhee Ryu, Youngju Oh and Hyesoo Kim approached the task when they were assigned to develop the blackout versions of the GV80 and the GV80 Coupe. 

Ryu joined as a Senior Designer with the Genesis CMF Team, Oh as a Senior Manager from the Genesis Brand Marketing Planning Team, and Kim as a Manager of the Genesis Product Planning Team. 

With four Genesis Black models now launched in Korea and plans underway for expansion into other markets, the trio is confident that the brand has successfully set itself apart from the league. 

Four Genesis Black models have been launched so far: the G90 Black, the GV80 Black, the GV80 Coupe Black and the G80 Black. How did the all-black trim come to life? 

Oh: When we first began planning the project, we reflected on what the color black means for the brand. This intrinsic question led us to examine our very name, Genesis, which means beginning and creation. Everything starts from black; black is the origin of everything. In this sense, we felt that both Genesis and black symbolize creation, and particularly a focus on essence. By blacking out all exterior and interior elements, we are showcasing the pinnacle of our brand identity, “Athletic Elegance.”

What makes Genesis Black different from the all-black trims of other brands? 

Kim: It’s all in the details. When you look at the all-black trims offered by other brands, you will notice they allow flexibility in some interior and exterior colors, which causes the black areas to stand out like accessories. In contrast, every element of a Genesis Black model, big or small, is uniformly black. Just pure black. This creates a harmonious blend that underscores black’s elegance. 

How small of a detail are we talking about here? 

Kim: Not just the Crest Grille, wheels, emblem, wood garnishes and door steps, but even the tiny buttons and switches were all developed as Genesis Black-exclusive details that required changes in our manufacturing methods. Even the Bang & Olufson logos on the speakers were made in a darker shade. 

Looking back, what was the hardest part of the development process? 

Ryu: Creating an all-black trim doesn’t mean we simply grabbed a paintbrush and colored everything in one stroke. We had to experiment with dozens of black variations for each material, carefully considering how they interact with light. We then tested how these materials looked in conjunction with other components and the overall ambiance they created. For example, when we were working on the Black Ash Real Wood Trim, we went through endless rounds of sampling processes to create the natural mix of black and wood patterns. We ultimately ended up applying a subtle brass color to the wood grain area to enhance the luxury feel of the wood while ensuring it matched with the surrounding elements. 

Kim: Considering how each vehicle contains tens of thousands of parts, changing just one — even its color — prompts a chain of questions we have to investigate and think through, like how they will affect operations on the factory line. 

Genesis Black also marks the first time the brand used recycled materials. How did that go? 

Ryu: As a brand, we’re all about finding interesting new materials that would elevate the driving experience. For Genesis Black, we used recycled materials and natural substances that require special manufacturing processes. For instance, the seats in Genesis Black models use carbon black powder extracted from discarded tires. Some of the dyes and oils used in the leather dyeing process have been replaced with pine bark and flaxseed oil. About 20 percent of the yarn used in the car floor carpets is made from recycled nylon derived from discarded fishing nets, while the floor mats incorporate modal fiber sourced from beechwood.

It's been about a year since the first Genesis Black model — the Genesis G90 Black — was released in Korea. How have customers responded so far? 

Kim: The G90, which was already popular in black, has become even more favored with the all-black theme. With the G90 Black, we aimed to attract a younger demographic compared to the traditional G90, and sales figures indicate we have successfully achieved this goal. 

Before we go, how do you hope customers will connect with Genesis Black? 

Oh: We hope our customers take pride in owning a Genesis Black. We want them to feel so connected to their vehicle that whenever they mention they drive a Genesis to their friends or family, they highlight one additional detail: that it’s a Genesis Black. 

SEOUL, Jan. 8, 2025 — Korean sales for the Genesis G80 Black start today, marking the fourth model of the Genesis Black family to be officially launched.

Genesis Black models are distinguished by their striking black color theme that extends throughout the interior and exterior. Three Genesis Black models were launched prior to the G80 Black: the G90 Black, the GV80 Black and the GV80 Coupe Black.

Bold and Refined

The exterior of the G80 Black better highlights the base model’s unique body lines and contours.

All exterior features have been blacked out, including the front bumper grille, radiator grille, front emblem, daylight opening (DLO) moldings, rear bumper molding, headlamp inner side bezels and the Advanced Driver-Assistance System (ADAS) radar cover pattern.

The G80 Black also boasts standard 20-inch wheels in glossy black, complete with floating center caps. A dark-gray “GENESIS” lettering emblem is positioned at the center of the trunk lid.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Dec. 13, 2024 — The 2025 Genesis GV80 was named Luxury SUV of Texas by the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) at the 31st Annual Texas Truck Rodeo, a distinction earned alongside a competitive lineup of leading SUVs. 

“The GV80 represents the pinnacle of our commitment to blending ‘Athletic Elegance’ with cutting-edge technology in our SUV lineup,” said Claudia Márquez, Chief Operating Officer of Genesis Motor North America. “Texas is a key market for the GV80 and the Genesis brand, and this recognition from the Texas Auto Writers Association underscores our dedication to delivering vehicles with unparalleled comfort, safety and innovation.” 

The newly enhanced 2025 GV80 includes updated exterior design elements and a comprehensive interior redesign that elevates the in-car experience, featuring a 27-inch OLED integrated multimedia cluster and navigation screen. 

Over 40 journalists from across Texas tested a variety of vehicles in their respective categories. Votes were based on each vehicle’s interior and exterior quality, value, performance and overall personal appeal. The votes were submitted electronically, calculated by an independent accounting firm, and presented to TAWA for the award announcement. 

As winner of the Luxury SUV of Texas category, the 2025 GV80 earns consideration for one of TAWA's highest honors — SUV of Texas — which will be announced at the Houston Auto Show in January 2025. 

Here’s how they stand out from their base models. 

The Purest Black

Both the GV80 Black and the GV80 Coupe Black confidently removed their model names and trim emblems in the rear, replacing them with dark-metallic “GENESIS” lettering. The harmonious integration of exterior decoration elements under the black tone and manner not only redirects attention to Genesis’ signature arch-type Parabolic Line sweeping across the voluminous body but also enhances the delivery of “Athletic Elegance," the brand's design philosophy.

Inside the cabins, the interior materials, each with unique textures and light reflectance, are expertly combined in black, delivering peace, comfort and tranquility. Behind this harmony stands Genesis’ rigorous efforts and advanced technology to coordinate the different shades of black — a color that, by nature, absorbs light differently by materials.

The GV80 Black and the GV80 Coupe Black feature interior designs that enhance their exclusivity, including real wood garnishes and quilted leather seats, which are accentuated by black suede materials, black aluminum speaker grilles and black door steps. 

To promote the virtuous cycle of resources, the leather seats, door trims and quilted rear seats have all been dyed with recycled carbon black extracted from waste tires. 

The distinctive black accents of Genesis Black are even applied to smaller details like switches, the shift-by-wire (SBW) system and Smart Key.

2025 GV80, GV80 Coupe: Elevated Ride Comfort 

Aside from the Genesis Black models, both the GV80 and GV80 Coupe have undergone product upgrades for the 2025 model year. 

The most significant change in the 2025 GV80 and GV80 Coupe is the improved ride comfort, due largely to the application of a new type of hydro bushings in the front suspension, dubbed “Hydro G-Bushing.” The hydro bushings minimize vibrations and jolts on the road, providing a much more serene driving experience than before. 

Hydro G-Bushings, which have been applied to the rear suspensions of the GV80 and the GV80 Coupe since 2023, encapsulate fluid within the bushings to create flow paths that absorb external vibrations more effectively. This results in greater damping force against specific frequencies (vibrations) compared to conventional rubber bushings, leading to better ride comfort. 

Another notable upgrade of the 2025 GV80 and GV80 Coupe is the refined emotional quality, evident through the integration of sophisticated Genesis-specific alert sounds in advanced driver assistance systems such as Parking Distance Warning (PDW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW). 

The expanded use of leather on the lower trim of the B-pillar further emphasizes the brand’s commitment to luxurious details. 

In terms of convenience, the Digital Key 2 now allows access to both the front and rear doors, boosting practicality in various scenarios, such as unlocking the door to retrieve items from the back seat or permitting a rear passenger to enter first when the door is locked.

In partnership with local distributor Astana Motors, Genesis is poised to introduce its award-winning lineup to the Kazakh market. This collaboration ensures that customers in Kazakhstan will have access to Genesis' range of luxury vehicles, complemented by unparalleled service and support. 

The event also marked the official opening of Genesis’ first showroom in Kazakhstan, which is located within The Ritz-Carlton, Almaty.

A Milestone in Global Growth 

The launch event included the unveiling of the newly designed G80 and GV80 models to introduce more dynamism to its Kazakh brand introduction. The G80, in particular, has been a standout performer, with over 390,000 units sold worldwide, when including sales figures for the Electrified G80.

The launch in Kazakhstan is part of Genesis' broader strategy to expand its presence in key markets across the globe. By entering the Kazakh market, Genesis aims to cater to the evolving preferences of luxury car enthusiasts in the CIS region, offering vehicles that embody the brand's core values of performance, design, safety and innovation. 

Customers in Kazakhstan can look forward to experiencing the Genesis lineup, including the G70, G80, GV70 and GV80 models. The brand’s flagship sedan, the G90, will be introduced to the region starting 2025. 

Genesis also plans to establish three more dedicated showrooms in key cities across Kazakhstan by the end of next year. These brand spaces will offer customers the chance to experience both the brand and models up close. 

For Yongjun Heo, it’s in the wheels.

“Just like how shoes make or break an entire look, it’s no exaggeration to say that wheels complete the overall design of a vehicle,” says Heo, who leads the Genesis Exterior Design Team.

“That's why as a brand and as a team, we’re dead serious about wheel designs.” 

The Inspiration

Audacious. Progressive. Distinctly Korean.

These three characteristics form the foundation of Genesis’ design identity, “Athletic Elegance.” They serve as the guiding star for all Genesis models, influencing every aspect of their design and product planning. 

“They are what drive us to take bolder steps than other brands, touch the hearts of customers with new technologies and incorporate exclusive Korean aesthetics," says Heo.

In wheel designs, the emphasis on Athletic Elegance leads to one critical question during planning: whether to prioritize athleticism or elegance. 

"For dynamic models like the Genesis G70 and the Genesis GV70, more aggressive spoke designs are used to express dynamism,” Heo mentions. “In contrast, for models like the Genesis G90 sedan, multi-spoke or dish-type wheels are tapped to convey elegance.”

3 Rules 

Behind every wheel design, there are three specific rules that guide the Genesis Exterior Design Team.

“One, the wheels must complement and harmonize with the overall body design,” Heo points out. “Two, they should visually appear larger-looking, and three, they must communicate a clear design message.”

No matter how aesthetically pleasing a wheel may be, it won’t be used if it doesn't meet the above criteria, particularly the first rule.

To overcome the challenge of creating a wheel design that seamlessly blends with the model, wheels at Genesis are not designed in isolation toward the end of the body design. Instead, they are developed in conjunction with the rest of the vehicle right from the outset, which approach ensures that the wheels are harmoniously integrated into the overall aesthetic.

Two Lines and the G-Matrix Pattern

When asked what sets Genesis wheel designs apart from other brands, Heo quickly highlights the Two Lines, one of the brand's signature design elements. 

"We begin with the Two Lines and explore new structural forms based on reinterpretations from different perspectives," Heo explains, offering the double-layer spoke structure of the Genesis X Concept as an example. 

Heo’s favorite: the Genesis X Speedium Coupe Concept’s five-spoke wheel.

"Considering that the X Speedium Coupe Concept was a concept vehicle, the wheels were designed to tease Genesis' future design vision," Heo recalls. "Although production feasibility was not a primary consideration, designing the wheels was still an incredibly difficult task. In hindsight, I think they ultimately elevated both the sportiness and elegance of the Genesis X Trilogy." 

Genesis wheels aren’t simply confined to aesthetics. They also offer functional advantages, like being lightweight while maintaining necessary rigidity.

The spoke cross-section design, for instance, effectively cools the brakes. The G-Matrix pattern, another one of Genesis’ signature design elements, helps secure rigidity and lighter weight, as seen in the G70 and the GV70 Sport models.

Limitless Possibilities

Looking ahead, Heo says he and his team have their eyes set on electric vehicles (EVs) and developing next-generation wheel designs that can enhance EV driving range. 

"There are countless designs to explore, along with new materials and manufacturing techniques that can significantly improve our aerodynamics,” Heo marvels. “The possibilities are limitless."

Three years after its initial launch in 2021, Genesis’ latest electric vehicle (EV) comes with a longer wheelbase than its predecessor, resulting in extra legroom and headroom in the rear seats.

Bohyun Park, Senior Research Engineer at the Genesis Engineering Solutions Team, explains how a steadfast obsession with creating a more comfortable ride led to the upgrades, and what the future holds for the brand’s flagship EV sedan. 
 

One of the biggest changes in the redesigned Electrified G80 seems to be the spacious back row.

Some of our customers who purchased the previous Electrified G80 said they would have liked more space and convenience features in the second row. And that’s probably because the EV model was built on the same platform as its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart, the Genesis G80. So when we started planning for the redesigned Electrified G80, our first and foremost priority was to maximize comfort in the rear seats, targeting VIPs. Hence, we stretched the wheelbase by 130 millimeters and added more features such as power reclining seats, Ergo Motion technology , electric door curtains, wireless charging pads and EasyClose [which enables passengers to conveniently open and close their doors with a push of a button on the rear console armrest, door trim or front center console].

Extending the wheelbase: How does that normally work? 

Adding more room in the cabin by simply enlarging the body is easy. What’s not easy is adding more room in the cabin and creating a comfortable, user-friendly space all the while perfecting our brand’s design philosophy, “Athletic Elegance.” Approaching this task, our focus was to optimize the dimensions of the vehicle by extending the length, specifically the wheelbase, by 130 millimeters. The 130-millimeter increase was then split between 70 millimeters toward expanding passenger space and 60 millimeters for seat adjustments.

What do you mean by “optimizing” the dimensions of the vehicle?

Once we decided to create more space in the back, we narrowed it down to three core objectives: more legroom, more headroom, and recreating the Rest Mode seat position originally offered in the Genesis G90. To this end, we moved the hip point [the point where the hips touch the seat] of the rear seats 70 millimeters backward, allowing passengers — even tall people above 180 centimeters — to comfortably stretch their legs. We also incorporated independently adjustable power reclining seats, unprovided in the ICE model. Improved seat designs in the EV model required an additional space of 60 millimeters compared to the previous model.

How about the legroom and headroom? 

For the front row, both the legroom and headroom remain the same as the previous Electrified G80. For the back, they’ve been increased by 82 millimeters and 20 millimeters, respectively. Whereas people often feel cramped in the back of an EV sedan because of the battery packs underneath, the redesigned Electrified G80 eliminates this issue by offering additional legroom and headroom. The car is even now 5 millimeters higher than before, maintaining its athletic and elegant roofline. 
 

The back seats also look a lot more comfortable than before.

The newly implemented power reclining seats allow for personalized seatback and bottom cushion tilt angles, enabling passengers to adjust their positions according to preferences. More specifically, a leg rest function has been added in the rear right VIP seat to provide extra support for the feet. When Rest Mode is activated, the front passenger seat moves forward, while the angles of the seatback, bottom cushion and leg rest in the rear right seat are modified to create an optimized seating position. The extent of modification for this leg rest may vary depending on various factors such as whether a passenger is in the front seat, and its reclining angle.

For those who chose to go without the power reclining seat option at the time of purchase, the fixed rear seats come with extra padding in the cushions and are tilted back by 2 more degrees. 

Developing both ICE and EV models using the same platform doesn’t sound easy. What was particularly challenging?

Unlike SUVs or crossovers, it’s critical for EV sedans to secure sufficient ground clearance to accommodate the high-voltage battery located at the bottom of the car. When using the same upper body for both the ICE and EV models, there are, of course, bound to be differences in interior space. That's why the latest Electrified G80 features a longer body, thus providing ample space for passengers within the cabin. 

What’s the next step for the Electrified G80? 

The most important factor to consider in a flagship EV model like the Electrified G80 is to provide customers with a comfortable, distinct experience. This includes both physical space and the overall emotional experience. As Genesis moves forward with electrification, the brand will continue to design interior spaces that offer elevated comfort and luxury.

It marked the brand’s inaugural entry into the SUV segment, was the first production model derived from a concept, and became the first in the Hyundai Motor Group (the Group) to feature Electronically Controlled Suspension With Road Preview (Preview ECS). 

Preview ECS utilizes a forward-facing camera to scan the road ahead for speed bumps or potholes, instantly adjusting front and rear damping to optimize ride comfort and handling control. 

Reflecting on the development process of this innovation, four research engineers from the Group’s Vehicle Motion Control Development Team, who played a pivotal role in bringing Preview ECS to life, explain how the technology continues to distinguish itself today. 

How did Preview ECS come about? 

Jung Inyong: The technology goes back to 2016, when we first started exploring different options for road surface recognition. Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) sensors were initially considered, but their high costs rendered them impractical for mass production, which is why we turned our attention to camera systems. 

How does Preview ECS in the GV80 compare to similar technology offered by other car manufacturers? 

Hyungjin Kim: Unlike competing technologies utilizing a stereo lens camera, the GV80’s Preview ECS employs a single-lens camera, which still performs as good as a stereo lens camera thanks to help from our partner companies and Group colleagues working in autonomous driving development. Competing technologies often face limitations in road surface recognition under certain conditions like nighttime or heavy rain, but Preview ECS uses navigation data, which effectively helps overcome these drawbacks. Another good thing about the GV80’s Preview ECS is that it doesn’t require any additional hardware when compared to the electronically controlled suspension system. Only software dedicated to road surface perception and suspension control need to be added, which enables us to keep manufacturing costs down to a minimum. 

How fast can Preview ECS recognize road conditions? 

Hyungjin Kim: To accurately perceive road surface conditions, the front-facing camera relies on the vehicle being in motion. In a GV80, the camera is capable of detecting road surface data when the vehicle is traveling at speeds of 10 to 130 kilometers per hour. There could, however, be a slight discrepancy between the speed at which the road surface is recognized and the maximum operational speed of the Preview ECS system. 

If the navigation system encounters a GPS error while detecting speed bumps, how does Preview ECS work? 

Jung Inyong: In situations where real-time GPS information is found to be inaccurate, Preview ECS will minimize its reliance on this data and revert temporarily to the electronically controlled suspension system without the preview function.  

How would you describe the biggest advantage of an electronically controlled suspension? 

Wookyun Kim: To control damping, the resistance of the solenoid valve in the GV80 is continuously adjusted every one-thousandth of a second, ensuring ride comfort in any situation. Unlike other suspension systems developed by our competitors, which normally use two solenoid valves that are electronically controlled when compressing and extending, the damper used in the GV80 controls both compression and extension with a single solenoid valve. Having a single solenoid valve reduces overall weight and improves maintenance. 

What happens if only one side of the vehicle drives over a speed bump? Can Preview ECS still function effectively in this unorthodox scenario? 

Jonghoon Choi: The front-facing camera detects not only the remaining distance between a speed bump but also the height and width of the ridge. Using that data plus the current vehicle speed and steering angle, Preview ECS predicts and computes the trajectories of both wheels. Therefore, even if only one side of the car drives over a speed bump, Preview ECS can still independently control the suspensions mounted on each wheel. 

What about rain? With Preview ECS relying on optical cameras, does it also work well in rainy weather? 

Hyungjin Kim: It’s true that the optical performance of the front-facing camera can be diminished in low-light conditions such as in nighttime or rain. Its ability to gather information is also limited when the vehicle is too close to the forgoing car. But that’s why Preview ECS was engineered to combine data from the navigation system plus various other sensors — to ensure that the electronically controlled suspension functions optimally under diverse circumstances.  

Is there some sort of a data processing device that processes all the information from the road surface? 

Byungjoo Kim: Yes, we use an advanced Electronic Control Unit (ECU) that was specifically developed for this unique type of electronically controlled suspension. The ECU works like a high-performance microcomputer. It integrates road surface data gathered from the front camera with inputs from multiple sensors in the vehicle. This extensive range of information is then processed at an incredibly fast rate of 100 calculations per second, allowing the ECU to generate optimal control commands. The electronically controlled suspension operates in conjunction with these commands by continuously adjusting the damping force. These adjustments are made at intervals as small as one-thousandth of a second, ensuring that the suspension system responds to ever-changing road surface conditions. 

Can the mechanism behind Preview ECS be adapted for other features? 

Wookyun Kim: Several features have already been developed using this mechanism, such as reducing body roll during cornering, and identifying and responding to uneven road surfaces. These additional functionalities weren’t applied to the GV80 considering the model’s overall concept. 

What was the biggest challenge in developing Preview ECS, particularly considering that it was its first practical application at the Group? 

Hyungjin Kim: Getting lots and lots of data — far beyond what was used in conventional electronically controlled suspensions. We needed data from front-facing cameras and navigation systems, which is why close collaboration between different functions within the Group was crucial. Road recognition technology utilizing a forward-facing camera had never been applied before in our Group, which posed many challenges in the initial development stage of functionality and performance. We conducted endless rounds of testing with our partner companies and internal colleagues. Integrating road surface data from the navigation system into the electronically controlled suspension was also a first for our Group. The whole process required a tremendous amount of time to ensure safety and functionality under various driving conditions.

The secret lies in smart technology like the Electronic Limited Slip Differential (e-LSD), which enhances traction on the road. When combined with the Terrain Mode, the all-wheel drive GV80 showcases exceptional performance and capability in various driving conditions. 

How LSD Works

Understanding e-LSD begins with grasping the concept of LSD. In a typical setup, power generated by the engine is transmitted to the wheels through the transmission and driveshaft. On straight roads, both the left and right wheels generally rotate at the same speed. 

However, when facing off-road conditions such as sand, mud or water, the circumstances could change swiftly. If one wheel of the axle gets stuck while the other remains unaffected, a difference in rotational speeds occurs. 

A similar situation arises when turning corners. The outer wheel typically covers a greater distance than the inner wheel due to the larger turning radius. This is why a differential gear is needed to distribute power differently to the left and right drive wheels. 

When turning a corner without a differential gear, the left and right wheels would rotate at the same speed, creating resistance on the outer wheel and thus increasing the risk of losing control of the vehicle. 

But a differential alone is barely sufficient. 

The differential transfers power based on the rotational speed difference between the drive wheels, meaning that power tends to concentrate on the wheel with less traction. That added power can lead the wheel to slip and spin, rather than gain the necessary traction to move forward. With the opposite wheel receiving little to no power, the chances of getting stuck increases significantly. 

This is where LSD comes in. 

As the name suggests, LSD prevents power from being excessively transferred to a wheel that’s slipping or spinning, ensuring that both the left and right wheels maintain adequate drive power and traction. 

Electronic Vs. Mechanical LSD 

Among the two main types of LSD, the all-wheel drive GV80 offers the optional electronic LSD, known as e-LSD. 

The other type of LSD, called the mechanical LSD (m-LSD), utilizes clutch plates to mechanically control power distribution to both wheels. While m-LSD provides fairly effective power distribution, it only engages when a certain level of difference is detected between the two wheels, meaning that it’s reactive in nature. 

In contrast, e-LSD uses electronically controlled clutches to proactively manage the difference in rotations between wheels. In other words, it detects terrain conditions and engages preemptively, allowing for smoother driving than the m-LSD. 

The e-LSD system of the all-wheel drive GV80, which is equipped in the rear axle, boasts one of the fastest response times in the industry. Using hydraulic actuators, it detects minute pressure changes in the vehicle based on road conditions and driving situations, distributing optimal power to the left and right rear wheels in less than a tenth of a second. 

Terrain Mode 

When it comes to truly conquering off-road terrain, the GV80’s combination of the all-wheel drive system, e-LSD and Terrain Mode ensures maximum control and performance. 

In Terrain Mode, the e-LSD works in conjunction with the engine control unit (ECU), transmission control unit (TCU) and traction control system (TCS) to optimize the vehicle’s off-road capabilities. 

While the e-LSD regulates power distribution between the rear wheels, the TCS oversees traction control for the front wheels. 

The Terrain Mode offers three settings: mud, sand and snow. 

Under Snow Mode, for example, the GV80’s engine, transmission and four-wheel drive system are all finely tuned to prevent excessive force from reaching the wheels and causing them to slip.

In Mud Mode, the GV80 utilizes its powerful engine to deliver a momentary strong force to all four wheels, effectively allowing the vehicle to quickly escape from muddy terrain.

In Sand Mode, the drivetrain is meticulously controlled to smoothly transmit engine power to all four wheels, maintaining a 50-to-50 distribution of power between the front and rear wheels. This balanced distribution helps prevent the wheels from getting stuck in the sand.

The result is a four-wheel drive system that allows the GV80 to navigate off-road terrain with ease and confidence.

SEOUL, Oct. 2, 2024 — Genesis today unveiled the GV80 Black and the GV80 Coupe Black, presenting an all-black finish that permeates every intricate detail with sophistication and refinement. 

It’s the second time Genesis has released a Black model, following the successful launch of the G90 Black in Korea last March. 

Genesis Black models are defined by their captivating dark-black color theme that extends throughout the interior and exterior, flawlessly embodying the essence of Genesis’ design philosophy “Athletic Elegance” in its purest form. 

All visible exterior features in the GV80 Black and the GV80 Coupe Black are finished in black, including the radiator grille, bumper garnish, front emblem, daylight opening (DLO) molding, roof racks and rear bumper molding. Even lesser visible details like the headlamp inner side bezels are black, completing the sleek look. 

Both SUV models come standard with 22-inch glossy black wheels and black floating center caps, the latter of which are exclusive to Genesis Black vehicles. The tailgate is adorned solely with the Genesis emblem in dark metallic lettering, adding the finishing touch to their unique presence. 

The interior is characterized by consistent black accents throughout, with distinctive materials further enhancing the sense of tranquillity. 

Black finishes are applied to various interior elements such as knobs, switches and glass accents of the shift-by-wire (SBW) system, as well as the leather stitching and button that opens the glove compartment. Enhancing the luxurious appeal are real wood garnish, exquisitely quilted seat leather with piping, as well as premium car mats.

As a sportier alternative to the GV80, the GV80 Coupe offers three powertrain options, all based on gasoline: a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four engine that makes 304 horsepower; and a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 that produces 380 horsepower, while the same engine coupled with a 48-volt electric supercharger (e-supercharger) spikes its output to a higher 415 horsepower. 

Available only in the GV80 Coupe and Genesis’ flagship sedan G90, the e-supercharger stands out as a defining feature that simply cannot be overlooked. 

How It Works 

While the e-supercharger in the G90 focuses on providing smooth and comfortable rides, the one set aside for the GV80 Coupe has been specifically tuned to provide rapid response and acceleration. 

When compared with the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine, the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine mounted with an e-supercharger incorporates a 48-volt mild hybrid starter-generator (MHSG) along with a 48-volt e-supercharger, which together provide more power assistance, improve low-end turbo lag, enhance responsiveness and increase fuel efficiency. 

To boost maximum output, the capacity of the turbochargers installed on each side of the engine with an e-supercharger has been increased, while in relation to this upgrade, the water-cooled intercooler capacity has been improved to enhance cooling performance and responsiveness. 

In addition to assisting power, the 48-volt MHSG performs the role of recharging the 48-volt lithium battery during regenerative braking, all the while functioning as a generator and starter motor.

A key feature of the e-supercharger-assisted engine is that its two-stage boosting system ensures responsiveness at low engine speeds. 

Typically, a turbocharger uses exhaust gas to spin the turbine following combustion in the engine, which then drives a compressor wheel to compress air into the engine, increasing output. Enhancing the turbocharger’s capacity can increase airflow and ultimately boost maximum output, but this normally leads to longer compression times. Therefore, when the engine is under load or operating at low speeds, it can cause a delay in acceleration or slower throttle response. 

The 48-volt e-supercharger, however, addresses these drawbacks by activating at speeds below 1,750 revolutions per minute. It compresses air behind the compressor wheel and delivers it to the engine, increasing low-end output and reducing turbo lag. When the engine reaches higher revolutions per minute, where the turbochargers alone are adequate for boosting, the air bypasses the e-supercharger and is directly supplied to the engine intake manifold. 

Airflow is controlled by the mechanical bypass valve. It has a spring inside that opens and closes the air path based on a steady difference in air pressure, which prevents sudden fluctuations in air supply to the engine when the e-supercharger is activated. 

Unlike a regular 12-volt e-supercharger found in traditional engines, a 48-volt system can deliver a significant amount of air to boost engine output. Another advantage of the 48-volt e-supercharger is that it’s powered by an electric motor, making it more efficient than traditional mechanical superchargers that rely on engine power. 

Thrilling Driving Pleasure 

The e-supercharger-boosted engine not only increases maximum power and torque compared to the standard twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6, but also alters the way power is delivered. The stark difference is evident when comparing torque and power graphs of both engine types. 

While both engines reach peak torque at 1,300 revolutions per minute, the torque graph of the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 rises sharply before that, resulting in a subtle fluctuation in output. Whereas with the other type of engine, because the e-supercharger assists the engine at lower revolutions per minute, it reaches peak torque more smoothly, and the torque decline after 4,500 revolutions per minute is more gradual.

When switching to Sport Plus Mode, the e-supercharger-assisted engine provides a more aggressive control over the output and torque, giving a strong push feel when shifting up gears and automatically adjusting the revs when downshifting. A newly added launch control feature maximizes acceleration from a standstill. 

To complement the improved engine performance, the running performance has also been refined. The damper tuning that supports the vehicle’s chassis has been modified to reduce rolling and pitching movements, allowing for better control of the vehicle. The steering system has been fine-tuned as well to enhance steering stability. The enhanced exhaust sounds add an extra level of excitement to the overall driving sensation.

Improved Fuel Efficiency 

The GV80 Coupe’s e-supercharger-equipped engine also offers improved fuel efficiency and reduced carbon emissions, chiefly thanks to the MHSG. The MHSG performs the role of a starter motor, turning the engine crankshaft as soon as the engine is started. With higher output than a conventional starter motor, it provides excellent startability. Its connection to the engine via a belt further allows for effective reduction of vibrations and noise. 

During steady driving, the MHSG uses power from the 48-volt lithium battery to supply the needed energy to the drivetrain system. During deceleration, the MHSG performs regenerative braking, collecting energy back into the 48-volt battery.

During inertial driving, when the accelerator pedal is not pressed and the vehicle is coming to a stop, the MHSG system engages the Extended Idle Stop & Go (ISG) function, which cuts off fuel injection to the engine — a stark contrast to the conventional ISG, which only operates when the vehicle is completely stopped. 

Compared to the turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6, the e-supercharger-boosted engine matched with 22-inch wheels offers a 3.85-percent improvement in fuel efficiency (0.3 kilometers per liter) and a 3.64-percent reduction in carbon emissions (8 grams).

After hitting production just five months later, the GV80 Coupe today maximizes practicality and sportiness with a dynamic exterior and an array of advanced technological features. 

Exterior: SUV Meets Sporty

The GV80 Coupe boldly combines Genesis’ design identity “Athletic Elegance” with dynamic styling cues. The aggressively trimmed front bumper features an expanded air intake, Two-Line headlamps incorporating Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology and a double-layered G-Matrix Crest Grille. The electronic supercharger (e-supercharger) option of the GV80 Coupe exclusively comes with dark chrome garnish, elevating the coupe’s high-performance image.

The side profile is characterized by an arch-shaped Parabolic Line that flows along the body and meets a sloping roofline that descends from the C-pillar to the trunk, striking a perfect harmony. The GV80 Coupe seizes attention with coupe-exclusive 20- and 22-inch wheels with distinctive spokes. Depending on the type of engine, the color of the brake calipers also varies: the e-supercharged coupe boasts vibrant red calipers, and the others black.

At the rear, the model flaunts a unique design with LED surface-emitting rear combination lamps and either twin-type or single-type exhaust tips. The type of exhaust tip is determined by the engine type.

The GV80 Coupe is available in a range of 13 exterior color options, including the coupe-exclusive “Bering Blue.” 

Interior: Refined Yet Exciting Touches 

The interior of the GV80 Coupe captures a high-tech sensibility with sporty design elements unique to a coupe. 

Along with the 27-inch OLED display and seamless center fascia, another standout feature are the three-spoke D-cut steering wheel and the three garnishing options that contribute to the model’s refined look, offered only in the coupe: Spin-Patterned Aluminum, Black Newspaper Real Wood and Real Carbon. Also equipped solely in the e-supercharged coupe are G-Matrix-inspired metal accents that are added to the pedals, which further enhance the exhilarating driving experience. 

E-Supercharger 

The GV80 Coupe presents three different powertrain options, all based on gasoline and combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission: a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four engine that delivers 304 horsepower; and a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 that produces 380 horsepower, while the same engine coupled with a 48-volt e-supercharger spikes its output to a higher 415 horsepower. 

The coupe is the only Genesis SUV that offers an e-supercharger, second only to the Genesis G90 in the entire lineup. The twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 assisted with an e-supercharger contains two turbochargers, one in each cylinder bank. Each cylinder bank consists of three cylinders, arranged in a V-shaped configuration. 

A major benefit of the e-supercharger is that it compresses air behind the compressor wheel and delivers it to the engine, increasing low-end output and reducing turbo lag. The engine further benefits from dual continuous variable valve timing (CVVT), an integrated exhaust manifold, integrated flow control valve, center injection and a water-cooled intercooler, which together optimize fuel efficiency and acceleration response to produce a maximum output of 415 horsepower and a peak torque of 56 kilogram-meters. 

Adrenaline Boosters 

Not only does the engine deliver impressive power, but it’s also complemented by a high-performance braking system as standard, which comes as optional in the Genesis GV80. This includes large discs that fully cover the wheels and four-piston 20-inch monoblock calipers, ensuring strong performance and reliable braking capabilities. 

A brake mode called Flex Brake is also available in the GV80 Coupe, which offers two settings: Comfort and Sport, allowing the driver to experience different braking sensations depending on the selected mode. For instance, setting the braking system to Sport Mode via the display alters the brake pedal response and stroke, resulting in a more engaging driving experience. 

Other exclusive highlights of the GV80 Coupe include Active Sound Design (ASD), which combines real engine sounds with virtual sounds, creating an immersive auditory experience that amplifies the model’s powerful performance.

A noticeable upgrade in the latest G80’s ride and handling is the implementation of frequency-responsive structures in the front and rear shock absorbers, which effectively reduce road feedback and residual vibrations. 

Other changes aimed at improving ride comfort include the tuning of the stabilizer bar and link connection bushings, as well as the application of hydro bushings to the crossmembers. A rack damper has also been added to the steering gearbox, with gear ratios having been adjusted to enhance handling.

To effectively block unwanted noise from infiltrating the cabin, a strip-cowl top cover has been installed on the driver’s side, and the sealing of the B-pillar garnish has been diligently improved. The use of sound-absorbing tires further helps to reduce tire resonance noise.

BUSAN, Korea, June 27, 2024 — The Genesis X Gran Racer Vision Gran Turismo Concept was unveiled for the first time today at the Busan International Mobility Show 2024 (BIMOS), highlighting the brand’s bold leap into the realm of high-performance luxury mobility. 

With the X Gran Racer VGT Concept being a part of the high-performance Genesis Magma program, today’s event marked the first time that a Magma vehicle was shown to the Korean public. 

The redesigned Genesis Electrified G80, which made its world premiere at the 2024 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition (Auto China) on April 25, was also showcased for the first time in Korea today at BIMOS. 

Making its Asian debut at BIMOS was the Genesis Neolun Concept, following its global premiere in New York on March 25.

As the brand’s first full-size electric SUV concept, the Neolun Concept embodies the ultimate Genesis hospitality behind the wheel with an array of state-of-the-art technological features, including B-pillarless coach doors, swiveling front-row seats and electric side steps. 

Revolving around the principle of “reductive design,” the exterior is characterized by clean, refined lines that deliberately eliminate any unnecessary details. The captivating two-tone scheme, called “Midnight Black and “Majestic Blue,” takes after Korea’s serene night sky and enhances the vehicle’s elegant design. 

Redesigned Electrified G80: Cutting-Edge Innovations 

The latest Electrified G80 is Genesis’ first redesign of the model since its global debut three years ago. 

The front fascia features the brand’s iconic G-Matrix Crest Grille with Micro Lens Array (MLA) headlamps and a refined bumper, accentuating Genesis’ “Athletic Elegance” design philosophy. 

The chrome garnish that envelopes the front, side and rear further elevate the look of the vehicle along with Genesis’ signature parabolic lines flowing over the new dish-style 19-inch wheels. 

Inside the vehicle, a longer wheelbase creates a roomier second-row area, providing various innovative features to elevate passenger comfort. After entering the vehicle, passengers can close the door with the push of a button using the EasyClose system and settle into reclining VIP seats with leg rests behind a rear-window curtain. 

Genesis Booth at BIMOS 

At BIMOS, the Genesis booth is located at Exhibition Center 1 in the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center (BEXCO), open to the public from June 28 to July 7. 

Seven cars will be on display: the X Gran Racer VGT Concept, Neolun Concept, two redesigned Electrified G80s, GV70, GV80 and G90 Black.

One, it accounts for nearly half the time involved in the entire car-making process. It also contributes to about half the carbon emissions generated. 

Hyundai Motor Group (the Group) is about to change that. 

Cutting Carbon Emissions 

The painting process of a car can be divided into four main steps: pre-treatment, primer, basecoat and clearcoat. 

In the clearcoat stage, the final color is applied and enhanced with gloss. The car then undergoes a high-temperature treatment in an “oven,” which is called the baking stage. 

Although baking is essential in preventing discoloration and ensuring the paint layer’s durability, it comes with serious drawbacks. 

It reduces the lifespan of painting equipment and significantly increases energy consumption in the car manufacturing process. A standard oven on the Group’s factory line operates at temperatures up to 180 degrees Celsius, emitting about 873 tons of carbon dioxide annually. It additionally consumes a large quantity of gas, amounting to 92.5 cubic meters per hour. 

To solve these issues, the Group has developed a new painting technology that utilizes urethane-based coatings, which undergo curing reactions at much lower temperatures than traditional coatings. When mixed with synthetic resin, they solidify at 80 to 90 degrees Celsius, greatly reducing the amount of heat consumed in clearcoats. 

A simple and cost-effective solution, the new method does not require additional infrastructure, only necessitating an adjustment to the oven temperatures and a change in paint. The lower temperature environment even extends the oven’s lifespan. 

Low-Temperature Paint Solution 

By applying the Group’s latest technology, it’s also possible to simultaneously paint different materials. 

With body shells composed of both metals (like iron and aluminum) and non-metals (like plastic), the conventional painting method has made it difficult to paint these two together given that plastics undergo heat distortion at around 130 degrees Celsius. 

The fact that the Group’s low-temperature paint method heats the oven up to only 90 degrees Celsius allows plastics and other materials to be painted at the same time without having their properties altered, ultimately saving time and energy costs.

Overcoming Challenges 

The Manufacturing Solutions Division, responsible for the overall vehicle body production process at the Group, has been applying these low-temperature curing coatings on test materials that are identical to the actual body panels, continuously working on material improvements and conducting various tests to meet production standards. 

Although the Division was able to confirm the new coating’s physical durability, its application to the actual body shell has faced challenges due to the characteristics of the body structure. The uneven heat transfer within the body shell has hindered the proper drying of the internal coating, making it susceptible to scratches and damage caused by external factors. 

To address this issue, the Division adjusted the ratio of resins composing the coatings and the added amount of slip agents that improve adhesion. They also re-calculated the drying temperature and heat supply in the interior and exterior of the body shell, to make sure that the interior and exterior materials could still be painted simultaneously. 

Testing of the first prototypes revealed that vehicles manufactured utilizing this new technology exhibited an impressive 96 percent gloss level when compared to current production vehicles. Although the difference is not easily discernible with the naked eye, the Group remains committed to refining the new technology until the gloss level matches that of the traditional method.

From Testing Grounds to Production Line 

Since July 2023, the Genesis G80 has undergone extensive testing with this new painting method, showcasing its capabilities across over 18,000 kilometers in real-world road conditions. 

The Group is fully committed to integrating this technology into production vehicles within the next two years and, in the longer term, implementing it across all global manufacturing plants. 

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., May 3, 2024 — The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) announced that the 2024 Genesis G80 sedan and G90 flagship sedan have earned TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) recognition. 
 

The TSP+ award applies to 2024 model-year vehicles built after October 2023, when Genesis modified the rear seat belts in the G80 and G90 to improve rear occupant protection. Cars built before that date still qualify for the TOP SAFETY PICK award. 

IIHS’ top safety award identifies the best vehicle choices for safety within size categories during a given year. This year’s evaluation upgraded G80 and G90 from their previous TOP SAFETY PICK ranking. G80 and G90 now join the 2024 GV60 and GV80 with top honors. 

“The top IIHS rating for G80 and G90 vehicles built after October 2023 proves our commitment to safety remains firm,” said Brian Latouf, Global Chief Safety and Quality Officer for Genesis. “With two more vehicles added to the growing lineup of Genesis models proudly bearing the TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation, customer safety remains a top commitment for the brand.” 
 

To qualify for IIHS TSP+, a vehicle must earn: 

• Good ratings in the small overlap front, and updated side tests 
• Acceptable or good headlights standard across all trims 
• Advanced or superior ratings for pedestrian front crash prevention 
   

To earn the TSP+ award this year, an acceptable or good rating in the updated moderate overlap front test is required, while a good rating in the original moderate overlap front test remains sufficient for the lower-tier TOP SAFETY PICK.

Reaffirming its commitment to China, the redesigned Electrified G80 luxury sedan incorporates features tailored to meet the market’s unique customer preferences, which include an exclusive China-only “Vision Blue” color. 

Genesis also introduced its new high-performance Magma program in China with the world premiere of the G80 EV Magma Concept, alongside showcases of the X Gran Berlinetta Concept and the GV60 Magma Concept, signaling the brand’s evolution as it enters the high-performance segment. Genesis also started sales of the Genesis GV80 Coupe, its first coupe SUV, as well as the redesigned GV80, offering Chinese consumers more choices as it continues expanding its lineup in the country.

Newly Designed Electrified G80 Makes Debut 

The newly designed Electrified G80 was unveiled in a new blue color exclusive to the Chinese market. Inspired by the Chinese saying that “the color blue is richer than its indigo origin,” this new two-toned color, named Vision Blue, is derived from the noble blue color in Chinese culture and reinterpreted with Genesis’s unique aesthetics. 

The Electrified G80 illustrates the progression of Genesis’ EV design. Its dignified front face features the brand's iconic G-Matrix Crest Grille with MLA headlamps and a refined bumper, portraying a stance of confidence. The vehicle’s elongated wheelbase, which has been increased by 130 millimeters, adds to the sense of elegance and closely resembles the side profile and daylight opening (DLO) of the brand’s flagship model, the Genesis G90. 

Together with the brand’s signature Parabolic Lines flowing over the new dish-style 19-inch wheels, the chrome garnish that envelopes the front, side, and rear further elevates the overall look of the vehicle. Befitting a luxury EV, the charging port cover has also been upgraded to open and close electronically. 

As for the interior, the Electrified G80’s longer wheelbase not only offers more space in the second row, but brings with it a myriad of new features that are designed to enhance passenger comfort. After entering through the easy-close door, passengers can settle into reclining VIP seats with leg rests in privacy behind a rear-window curtain. The Ergo Motion Seats and Integrated Memory System (IMS) in the second row are also new features that are not found in its predecessor. 

The interior is further upgraded with the quilted garnish newly added to the second-row door. The vehicle’s cabin offers personalized entertainment for relaxation and work with a 27-inch OLED display, as well as a 17-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system. Driving comfort is further elevated thanks to improved noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) reduction, adding to the experience of effortless luxury. 

Genesis Magma Program Arrives in China 

Genesis also introduced its Magma program in China with the world premiere of the G80 EV Magma Concept, also in a China-exclusive “Acme Blue” color, in addition to showcasing its X Gran Berlinetta Concept and the GV60 Magma Concept. 

The Genesis Magma program infuses the brand with a new dynamism and marks Genesis’ exciting entry into the realm of high-performance vehicles. G80 EV Magma Concept

One of the standout features of the G80 EV Magma Concept is the China-exclusive Acme Blue color. Inspired by the blue flames that are known to burn at the highest temperature range, this unique color symbolizes the dedication to China’s continuous progress and advancement while also signifying the ever-evolving nature of the brand's Magma program. 

Building on the success of the GV60 Magma Concept, the G80 EV Magma Concept marks the second electric vehicle model in the Magma program. True to the Genesis ethos, this concept highlights a more athletic aspect compared to the Electrified G80, perfectly embodying power, performance, and style. 

In terms of design, the G80 EV Magma Concept features various enhancements. The front grille has been redesigned, offering a more striking appearance. Wider fenders and a new rear bumper give the vehicle a more commanding presence on the road. The wider body and lowered ride height are complemented by 21-inch wheels, which are wider at the rear. 

The rear bumper is adorned with an integrated fog lamp, reminiscent of iconic racing cars, while a sculpted trunklid and pronounced spoiler lip contribute to improved aerodynamics. The rear diffuser and ducktail spoiler work together to optimize the flow of air, further enhancing the vehicle's overall performance. 

Performance is a key element of the G80 EV Magma Concept, with various enhancements implemented. The use of an advanced suspension system, high-performance wheels, and large, ventilated front and rear brakes significantly enhance the vehicle's capabilities. 

The wider track, tuned suspension for elevated road-holding and cornering potential, and larger brakes ensure excellent handling and increased driver confidence. Keeping in mind the importance of weight management, the lightweight wheels have been optimized to cool the brakes while reducing unsprung weight. 

The interior of the G80 EV Magma Concept is crafted with Alcantara, quilted leather, and carbon fiber inserts featuring a blue-colored weave. 

GV60 Magma Concept 

First introduced last month at Genesis House New York, the GV60 Magma Concept elevates the design and performance of the existing GV60 — Genesis’ first dedicated EV model — with improved battery and motor technology. The concept car is the first step toward creating a deeper emotional connection between the driver and the vehicle. 

The GV60 Magma Concept’s exterior design harmonizes aesthetics with considerations for chassis, aerodynamics and thermodynamics. To enhance stability during sporty driving, the car has been widened and lowered, giving it a more dynamic stance and allowing for a lower center of gravity. 

The GV60 Magma Concept’s distinctive exterior design extends into the luxurious and sporty interior. It features elements including bucket seats with body-colored seatbacks, upholstered in nappa and suede leather featuring double-diamond stitching patterns in Magma’s iconic orange color and titanium grey. 

The X Gran Berlinetta Concept 

The X Gran Berlinetta Concept, first unveiled in Barcelona last December, was born from a design study that demonstrates Genesis’ passion and intent for the Vision Gran Turismo series. 

The X Gran Berlinetta Concept’s design language is pure and muscular with volumes centered around the wheels. Its design orchestrates the cab backwards proportions with Genesis’ typical anti-wedge attitude that is structured around a virtual parabolical tensioned theory, which is common to the Genesis model lineup. The package design maximizes the dash-to-axle ratio while moving the driver and powertrain rearward for a lean mid-engine layout. 

GV80 Coupe and Redesigned GV80 Begin Sales 

The GV80 Coupe marks the brand’s expansion into the luxury coupe SUV segment, bringing together extraordinary design and exceptional performance. The “Ergo Motion Seat” developed by Hyundai Motor Group (the Group) aims to address just this conundrum. 

Air Pockets 

When the first-generation Genesis G80 was released, it boasted significantly thicker seats to enhance comfort. With the second-generation G80, the cushion bulk was reduced. 

For the third-generation G80, the key was to improve overall comfort while keeping seat thickness consistent with the second-generation model. This is where air pockets, or the Ergo Motion Seat, came into play. 

The Ergo Motion Seat uses air pockets that control the amount of air within the bags and customize seating posture based on the passenger’s weight. This advanced seat design comes with a total of seven air pockets: two in the bottom cushion, three in the backrest and one in each side bolster. 

To effectively support the passenger’s weight, the seat utilizes durable plastic materials and a laser bonding technique, ensuring both strength and stability. 

The three air pockets equipped in the backseat of the Ergo Motion Seat are both flexible and robust, thanks in large part to an integrated support structure that molds the shape of the air pockets when inflated. This support structure ensures that the air pockets provide consistent and adequate support to the passenger, regardless of their body shape or weight. 

The air pockets of the bottom cushion and the backrest can inflate up to about 10 and 30 millimeters, respectively. 

All functions of the Ergo Motion Seat are linked to a monitor that allows users to adjust the seat to their liking with a touch of a button. 

Adjustable Settings 

One of the biggest advantages of the Ergo Motion Seat is that the size of the air pockets are adjustable. 

When the driving mode is set to Sport Mode, the side bolster air pockets inflate for about two seconds to firmly hold the passenger’s waist, while the air pockets in the bottom cushion deflate to allow the driver in a lower position for a more immersive driving experience. 

When the drive mode is switched back to “normal,” the seating posture is returned to the previously set position. 

During long-distance journeys, the Ergo Motion Seat effectively prevents drivers from experiencing “seat sagging,” the feeling of sitting lower than usual as the bottom cushion continuously compresses. The Ergo Motion Seat tackles this discomfort with its “smart posture support” function, which inflates the air pockets in the backrest to reduce driving fatigue. 

After an hour of driving, the smart posture support function automatically activates, causing the air pockets in the backrest to inflate and deflate in a repetitive pattern. 

The Ergo Motion Seat also comes with a massage function. 

Next-Level Comfort 

Further research is underway to improve the Ergo Motion Seat. One notable feature being explored is the automatic adjustment of air cushions based on the passenger’s body shape and posture. When this technology is integrated with driving data, the Group hopes to create seats that can proactively respond to different road conditions. 

As the auto industry accelerates into the future, the Ergo Motion Seat stands as a testament to the ongoing transformation of comfortable mobility.

Intelligent Front-Lighting System 

Since the introduction of LED light sources, the design and utility of headlamps have taken significant steps forward, quickly replacing halogens and high intensity discharge (HID) lamps. 

LEDs offer excellent visibility, quick response and high energy efficiency. As compact light sources, LEDs give automakers more freedom to design and configure their models, with the ability to be individually controlled when linked with sensors and cameras. The Group has leveraged these advanced features in its development of the Intelligent Front-Lighting System (IFS). 

While high beams provide better visibility on quiet, dark roads at night, the glare they emit impairs the vision of oncoming vehicles. General high-beam assist technology addresses this issue by automatically switching off the high beams when another vehicle approaches, but the Group’s IFS takes this technology to the next level. 

The IFS featured in the Genesis G80, G90, and GV80 models utilizes information from the front camera to recognize surrounding vehicles, partially dimming the LED headlamps accordingly. It maintains the high beam except for areas where other vehicles are present, allowing continuous visibility. The IFS is an improvement over high-beam assist systems that simply turn off the high beams when another vehicle is detected. 

Digital Side Mirror 

The Digital Side Mirror (DSM) system is another prime example of the Group’s innovative use of optical technology. DSM technology, available as an option in the Genesis GV60, revolutionizes the conventional side mirror by utilizing high-definition cameras and OLED monitors as replacements.

One notable drawback of traditional side mirrors is their limitation in providing a clear rear view during night-time or in bad weather. The high-resolution camera of DSMs, however, ensures a clear view even in low-light situations. The indoor OLED monitor effectively solves visibility issues caused by rain, snow, or other adverse weather conditions.

The DSM system further enhances safety by offering a viewing angle that is 11 degrees wider than that of conventional side mirrors, reducing blind spots and thus lowering the risk of accidents. 

Benefits of DSM are also evident during parking. Vehicles equipped with DSMs can activate the rear parking screen enlargement function when in reverse. When the car is within 1 meter of an obstacle, orange parking assistance lines appear on the screen, and when within 0.5 meters, red lines show up.

With aerodynamic designs being crucial for maximizing EV mileage, DSM technology is prone to grow more significant in the EV era in terms of functionality and design. 

Avoiding Collisions With Camera Assistance 

Radar and ultrasonic sensors are commonly utilized in collision prevention assist functions, but the importance of cameras is growing in recent times. The Group’s Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) system exemplifies this trend as it incorporates a high-resolution camera to scan the road, alerting drivers when danger is sensed ahead and applying the brakes if necessary. 

The latest version of the Group’s FCA systems has been enhanced to include a wider detection range, encompassing pedestrians, cyclists, oncoming vehicles at intersections, and vehicles crossing the driver’s path. 

Another technology that leverages front cameras is the Road-Preview Electronic Control Suspension (Preview ECS). By combining front camera data with navigation map information, the system can analyze and evaluate road conditions in real time, adjusting the suspension’s damping force accordingly. 

Preview ECS comes with a high-performance electronic control unit (ECU), which performs calculations up to 100 times per second. Based on the results, Preview ECS adjusts the damping force at 0.001-second intervals, effectively reducing shock and vibration for an exceptionally comfortable ride experience. 

Some latest models of the Group, such as the Genesis G90, are equipped with Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA) for the front, rear and side detection areas. Models with this feature include a wide-angle camera mounted on the front grille, side mirrors and trunk lid, which identify blind spots for safer driving. 

3D Instrument Cluster 

As cars undergo digital transformation, analog elements within the cabin are gradually vanishing. Traditional buttons on the center fascia are being replaced by sleek touch displays. The classic engine vitality indicators represented by sharp needles on the instrument panel are being substituted with digital screens. 

But not everyone is a fan of this transition. While the digital instrument panel may offer a wealth of information, some say they lack the visual appeal of its predecessor. 

To address this issue, the Genesis G70 introduced the world’s first 12.3-inch 3D cluster, a feature that adds a stereoscopic effect to the car’s digital instrument panel by implementing the illusion of depth with 2D imagery. The screen is built with eye-tracking technology to accomplish the effect without the need for glasses.

From his early days in a rock band to collaborating with famed artists like Hyoshin Park and IU, one of Jung’s latest gigs was to compose the TV commercial background music for the redesigned G80. 

During a recent interview at the Genesis Lounge in central Seoul, Jung shared insights about his creative journey and sources of musical inspiration. 

How does it feel to see your international reputation soar due to the success of "Parasite" and "Squid Game"? 

I still can’t believe [the “Parasite”] won the Academy Award. But full credit goes to the directors. My job was to simply discover the most fitting musical language. The success of these works has luckily given me a lot of opportunities, such as [my first album with the British record label] Decca, and a chance [to collaborate] with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. It’s like I’ve opened a new chapter in my career. 

When you released your first album last year, “List,” you said you wanted to take on new challenges. What has the past year been like for you? 

I fortunately had numerous opportunities to collaborate with the classical music industry, such as the London Symphony Orchestra, of which I have over 300 album CDs at home. Despite classical music not being my field of expertise, I also collaborated with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. These experiences have broadened my perspective toward neo-classical music and orchestras, sparking a desire to delve deeper and expand my knowledge in these areas. This newfound interest has been the most significant shift for me in the last year. 

You recently worked on the music for the G80 commercial. Was it your first venture into ad music?

I've been doing different advertisements since my 20s, but I think this was the first time working on such a large-scale ad encompassing a 30-second and 60-second USP [unique selling proposition]. 

How was it compared to your previous works? 

I’m the type of person who finds composing four-minute K-pop songs challenging because I feel they’re too short [for my creative process]. But with this ad, I had to condense everything into less than a minute, so the process required a much more detailed approach. Longer pieces usually give me the freedom to improvise, but with shorter ones, every little detail is important, from the choice of an instrument to the placement of each note. 

Watching the ad, the latter half seemed to have a different vibe from the first. 

I tried to focus more on [the G80’s] performance and design with the first part, and then emphasize the quietness and coziness of the interior for the latter, highlighting a sense of comfort. 

I heard you’re currently test-driving the G80. 

I’m not used to driving luxury cars, but I was immediately struck by the serene silence and comfort of the ride. The driving experience of the G80 is completely different from that of my own car, especially on the highway. Music sounds fantastic in the G80, and the picturesque scenery passing by makes me feel like I’m in some sort of a music video. 

In a previous interview, you once expressed hope that your Korea-inspired music would spread globally. “Distinctly Korean” is actually a core part of the Genesis DNA. 

From a young age, I’ve been passionate about traditional arts, particularly traditional music. This passion stems not from my Korean nationality, but from my sheer appreciation for the beauty of Korean art and culture. Over time, traditional music naturally made its way into my soul and music. It’s not that I have some grand mission to promote Korean culture across the world. The beautiful language that permeated within me is just unwittingly expressing itself.

The interior of the G80 remains faithful to Genesis’ design ethos, embracing the uniquely Korean concept of the Beauty of White Space, all the while blending in advanced technology throughout the vehicle. 

The upgraded upholstery features high-quality stitching and materials from leather and aluminum to real wood. Design improvements also include a horn cover with the new Genesis emblem and two-tone steering wheel. 

The 27-inch-wide OLED display integrates the cluster and AVN (Audio, Video, Navigation) screen in a horizontal layout, through which various streaming services can be played. The display seamlessly extends to the center fascia, elevating its high-tech sensibility. 

The touch-based HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) system thoughtfully offers drivers ease of control, while the redesigned crystal-like Shift By Wire (SBW) ensures a comfortable grip and adds a sense of luxury. 

In addition, the newly integrated Bang & Olufsen speaker system, designed in real aluminum finish, delivers audio of the highest caliber. The brightness of the mood lighting feature has also been improved with indirect lighting to cover a larger surface area, creating a relaxed and cozy ambience. 

The G80 is offered in 10 exterior color options, including the newly added Brooklyn Brown. The interior is available in five color options: black monotone, camel monotone, grey/beige two-tone, brown/blue two-tone, and black/red two-tone (G80 Sport exclusive). 

Enhanced Safety and Convenience Features 

The newly designed G80 offers improved convenience and safety features, enriching the overall driving experience. 

The car comes with an array of convenience features, including Digital Key 2, a Fingerprint Authentication System, UVC disinfection trays and heated armrest. Other notable additions include a 14.6-inch rear-seat display for streaming services. 

The 3-Zone+ HVAC system allows passengers to individually control airflow and temperature in three separate areas within the cabin: the driver’s seat, passenger seat and second row. 

Built-In Camera 2 provides improved image quality and recording capabilities. Hands On Detection (HOD) allows the vehicle to accurately detect when the driver is holding the steering wheel. 

The upgraded ADAS system is a combination of features that assist the driver, including Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 (RSPA 2) and Front/Side/Rear Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA-F/S/R). This system autonomously assesses the driving environment and takes proactive measures to prevent accidents, ensuring drivers can consistently enjoy a safe and comfortable driving experience. 

Additionally, a new passenger seat memory system, rear electric curtains, rear manually-controlled window curtains, and a multifunctional rear armrest controller have been standardized for the G80, further enhancing ride comfort. 

Powerful Driving Performance With Enhanced Handling 

The G80 comes in two powertrain options: a gasoline 2.5 turbo engine, which delivers a robust 304 horsepower (ps) and 43.0 kgf·m of torque; and a gasoline 3.5 turbo engine, which produces a maximum output of 380 horsepower (ps) and 54.0 kgf·m of torque. 

Genesis has also enhanced the G80’s driving dynamics to minimize the intrusion of road noise into the cabin, thereby improving the luxury sedan’s tranquility. 

The G80’s newly applied frequency-sensitive Shock Absorber responds delicately to the frequencies transmitted to the tire, adjusting based on the vehicle’s speed and the condition of the road surface. (Shock Absorber is replaced with Preview ECS for gasoline 2.5 turbo with 20-inch wheels or gasoline 3.5 turbo models.) 

Alongside the inclusion of noise-absorbing tires (19-inch/20-inch), the G80’s ceiling structure has been optimized to reduce vibration and noise from both the road and wind. 

The G80 Sport: A New Level of Dynamism 

Genesis has also launched the G80 Sport package, distinguished by its dynamic design elements and enhanced driving performance capabilities. 

While the front fascia is equipped with MLA-powered LED headlamps, akin to the redesigned G80, the G80 Sport stands out with its Crest Grille, reinforced by a double-layered G-Matrix pattern and expanded air intakes that contribute to the car’s high-performance image. 

The pronounced design of the newly styled bumper and diffusers exudes sportiness at the rear, while the addition of black garnish embracing the rear end further accentuates the sport sedan’s silhouette and emphasizes its dynamic look. 

The G80 Sport offers exclusive interior packages, including a D-cut steering wheel and two types of carbon garnish (red/silver). 

In particular, the G80 Sport 3.5 turbo engine model is equipped with Rear Wheel Steering (RWS), which allows the car to steer the rear wheels in conjunction with the front axle. This feature facilitates smoother maneuvering in tight spaces and enables agile movements when changing lanes or avoiding obstacles at medium and high speeds. 

The Electronic-Limited Slip Differential (E-LSD) is another feature that allows optimized power delivery on both sides of the wheels for a more stable and dynamic control of cornering at high speeds. 

Also exclusive to the G80 Sport 3.5 turbo engine model are Michelin summer tires and the Sports+ driving mode, enabling more agile and dynamic driving.

The event marked a significant milestone for the brand in the region, demonstrating its strong commitment to delivering a hyper-personalized and unparalleled luxury experience for its discerning clientele. Under the creative vision of Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer, attendees experienced the unveiling of two One of One cars, marking the first public showcase of the brand’s bespoke program. 

In addition to the exclusive One of One models, Donckerwolke also revealed three performance-based projects: the GV80 Coupe Concept, G80 Performance, and X Gran Berlinetta Concept. These cars embody the fusion of emotion and dynamics, each representing varying iterations of the brand’s design philosophy of “Athletic Elegance.” 

The event brought together Genesis’ partners, VIPs, and media under the concept of “Distinctly Yours,” providing an immersive experience highlighting the brand's dedication to the region while presenting its direction for personalization and performance. 

One of One’s Potential Realized in the Middle East 

The “One of One” name originates from the art scene, which refers to art pieces and collectibles issued as a single, unique edition. These pieces attract a higher value because they are one-of-a-kind editions with no reproductions. Genesis applies the same concept, making each One of One car an original piece that can be perceived as the most prestigious representation of Genesis. 

Genesis first developed the program concept as part of its progression to design authentic and original experiences for its customers, aiming to create a hyper-personalized service that customers could experience beyond the car.  

Guided by these goals, Genesis introduced the program to VIP customers with a private showcase in the Middle East in 2021. The brand’s careful yet focused approach served as an opportunity to inform the overall direction and potential of the One of One program in one of the fastest-growing luxury markets in the world.  

At the event, Genesis reaffirmed its dedication to delivering the pinnacle of luxury to Middle Eastern customers through the One of One program’s dual-offering approach.

  
The first option allows for a fully personalized vehicle, meticulously tailored to individual preferences. The second option is the special edition offering, where each edition is exclusively crafted to embody the brand's philosophy as derived from various sources of inspiration — such as specific regions, artists, and events. These special editions represent the brand's reinterpretation of specific themes while ensuring a harmonious blend of external influence with Genesis designs.  

The First One of One Model 

The first car revealed at the event was the brand’s initial One of One model, designed to demonstrate the program and scope. A G90 LONG WHEEL BASE with a two-tone exterior body in black and white, the car comes in a pearlescent paint finish that provides a unique sheen. Meanwhile, its deep black paint coating features red metallic flakes to subtly match the red hue of the interior under sunlight. Red was selected as the interior color to symbolize the impassioned nature of Middle Eastern customers.  

The G90’s interior customizations were made based on both design and function to exhibit the range of possibilities Genesis can offer One of One customers. For the trim, a special type of white stone was used to set itself apart from the standard Genesis lineup. 

The rear seats featured built-in analog watches that display three separate time zones for the executive traveler. It also comes with a cooler along with a crystal carafe and glasses in the rear console. On the right rear passenger seat, there is a metallic plate that features the signature of Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke, who led the design of this specific G90. The One of One marking also extends to the headrest cushions and treadplates, which are revealed on the door sills—all of which can be replaced with the customer’s name or signature upon request.  

The First Special Edition  

The second car revealed was the GV80 Twilight Special Edition by Genesis One of One, the first special edition introduced by the bespoke program. Drawing inspiration from the mesmerizing hues and textures of Middle Eastern deserts, the term ‘Twilight’ symbolizes the convergence of two lights — as the sun sets and the moon rises — similar to the meeting of two cultures, the Middle East and Korea. 

In addition, the brushed pattern perfected by Genesis’ proprietary painting technique is also designed to convey the undulating and sandy texture that express the traces of wind on desert sand.  

The car unveiled at the event came in a two-tone gold and black exterior; the gold embodies the golden sand of the desert while the orange interior color depicts the orange-colored sky during sunset. Genesis designed another variant of the Twilight Special Edition that comes in blue and black — the blue represents the Arabian skies right after sunset. The GV80 Twilight Special Edition by Genesis One of One was created exclusively for the Middle East region and will be available in both colors, limited to 20 cars.

Athletic Elegance Driven by Performance 

Immediately following the unveiling of the One of One models, Donckerwolke switched gears to the three performance-based projects — all of which were in the energetic Magma color to denote the brand’s vibrant theme. All three models were marked with “Designed by Genesis” to signify the brand’s pride in introducing its high-performance vision.  

First unveiled in New York last April, the four-passenger GV80 Coupe Concept made waves by introducing a new facet to the Genesis brand by combining the practicality of a lifestyle-oriented SUV with the dynamism of a sports car. At the time, Donckerwolke had promised to “inject more adrenaline and fun into the brand.”  

Referencing this promise, Donckerwolke presented the G80 Performance for the first time. He referred to the car as “the thoroughbred of the G80 family” and mentioned that everything from the design to the aerodynamics and suspension were modified to enhance the athletic component of the car. Genesis partnered with companies known for their competencies in increasing the performance capabilities of cars to achieve this. 

Donckerwolke underlined that the G80 Performance is “Designed by Genesis” and that the brand will release details on production, pricing, timing, and technical specs at a later date. The G80 Performance will be a limited series of up to 20 models and will be available in the Middle East with various options for customers to further personalize it to their needs and tastes.  

The final reveal for the evening was the X Gran Berlinetta Concept that was first introduced in Barcelona on Dec. 2 at the 2023 Gran Turismo World Series Finals. The concept car was created as part of Polyphony Digital’s Vision Gran Turismo series and will be available to race in the game starting January 2024. 

As a concept born from a design study demonstrating Genesis’ passion and intent for the Vision Gran Turismo series, the car perfectly embodies Genesis’ characteristic Athletic Elegance design philosophy.
