FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Aug. 31, 2021 — Today, Genesis G80 was named Best Upper Midsize Premium Car in the J.D. Power 2021 Initial Quality Study. This ranking marks an improvement for the model, having been ranked second in its segment in the prior 2020 study.

The annual study ranks auto manufacturers and their products by problems per one hundred vehicles (PP100). The brand and car with the lowest level of problems wins the respective category. 

Genesis was ranked first in initial quality among premium brands from 2017 to 2020, and continued its strong performance in 2021, ranking second.

The annual study measures customers’ satisfaction with audio, communication, entertainment and navigation (ACEN) systems. Both J.D. Power studies award brands and vehicles with the lowest instance of problems per 100 cars sold (PP100). The G70s researched in the Multimedia Study witnessed just 7.4 PP100, representing 28% fewer issues than the closest competition. Similarly, in this year’s IQS study, Genesis vehicles saw 63 PP100 in leading both the premium segment as well as the industry overall. This overall 2019 IQS Study result represents 32% fewer issues than the industry standard and 25% fewer issues than the runner-up premium brand.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., June 19, 2019 — For the second year in a row, Genesis placed first in the J.D. Power 2019 U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS) among all automotive brands. With a score of 63 problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100), Genesis led both the premium segment as well as the industry overall in initial quality.

The Genesis brand’s score of 63 PP100 represents a year-over-year improvement of five points. G70, which scored 60 PP100 in its first sales year—more than 30 points better than the average for its segment—was appreciated by owners for its infotainment system, interior and exterior design, and features and displays.

The Genesis G90 also placed first among vehicles in the Large Premium Car segment for quality ratings.

The 2018 U.S. Initial Quality Study is based on responses from 75,712 purchasers and lessees of new 2018 model-year vehicles who were surveyed after 90 days of ownership. The study is based on a 233-question battery organized into eight vehicle categories designed to provide manufacturers with information to facilitate the identification of problems and drive product improvement. 

Since taking top honors in the 2017 IQS study among premium brands and second overall, the Genesis brand placed second in J.D. Power’s U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study among premium vehicles.
