Power 2022 U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study. Genesis was also ranked second overall among premium brands.

The J.D. Power U.S. APEAL Study examines new-vehicle owners’ assessments of their experiences with their new vehicle after 90 days of ownership. The study data provides insight on experiences with design, performance, safety, usability, comfort, and other factors.

TROY, Michigan, Feb. 10, 2022 — Today, Genesis was named best premium nameplate in the J.D. Power 2022 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study, marking the second such instance in only its third year of eligibility. Today’s announcement follows two consecutive years of category-specific awards, with G80 being named best midsize premium car in the 2021 and 2020 studies.

For the 2022 study, J.D. Power looked at the 2019 model year of vehicles to assess dependability. For Genesis, this included the G70 sport sedan, G80 executive sedan, and G90 flagship sedan. 

The annual study ranks auto manufacturers and their products by problems per one hundred vehicles (PP100). The brand and car with the lowest level of problems is considered most dependable. Genesis achieved 155 PP100, which ranked 37 PP100 better than the industry average.

The TXI Innovation Index Study measures how effectively each automotive brand brings technologies to market, measured on a 1,000-point scale. The index combines the level of adoption of new technologies for each brand with the excellence in execution. The execution measurement examines how much owners like the technologies and how many problems they experience while using them. 

The TXI Study analyzes 36 technologies, which are divided into four categories: convenience; emerging automation; energy and sustainability; and infotainment and connectivity. Only technologies classified as advanced are award-eligible.

Power’s 2020 Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS). The Korean luxury brand ranked #1 overall and scored a win with its G80 in the Midsize Premium Car Segment.

The annual study ranks auto manufacturers and their products by problems per one hundred vehicles (PP100). The brand and car with the lowest level of problems wins the respective category. The Genesis brand won overall by achieving less than one problem per vehicle (89 PP100) during the past 12 months by original owners of their three-year-old vehicles. The 89 PP100 score represents a 34 percent better performance than the industry average. Specific areas of leadership include the driving experience, HVAC (heating/ventilation and air conditioning), interior and seating categories.

The annual study measures customers’ satisfaction with audio, communication, entertainment and navigation (ACEN) systems. Both J.D. Power studies award brands and vehicles with the lowest instance of problems per 100 cars sold (PP100). The G70s researched in the Multimedia Study witnessed just 7.4 PP100, representing 28% fewer issues than the closest competition. Similarly, in this year’s IQS study, Genesis vehicles saw 63 PP100 in leading both the premium segment as well as the industry overall. This overall 2019 IQS Study result represents 32% fewer issues than the industry standard and 25% fewer issues than the runner-up premium brand.

With a score of 63 problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100), Genesis led both the premium segment as well as the industry overall in initial quality.

The 2018 U.S. Initial Quality Study is based on responses from 75,712 purchasers and lessees of new 2018 model-year vehicles who were surveyed after 90 days of ownership. The study is based on a 233-question battery organized into eight vehicle categories designed to provide manufacturers with information to facilitate the identification of problems and drive product improvement. 

Since taking top honors in the 2017 IQS study among premium brands and second overall, the Genesis brand placed second in J.D. Power’s U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study among premium vehicles.

The APEAL Study assesses how much owners like or dislike 77 attributes in 10 categories of their new vehicle at 90 days of ownership. These attributes include driving dynamics, visibility and safety, storage and space and interior and exterior design. A total of 69,990 surveys were completed encompassing 33 brands and 243 models.
