MONTEREY, Calif., Aug. 13, 2021 — This weekend, Genesis lifted the veil on its vehicle design process at an ultramodern experiential installation called The Performance of Design during Monterey Car Week. The designs unveiled included three concept vehicles developed in collaboration with the creators of the world-renowned Gran Turismo video game series. 

Genesis, a brand oriented around its bold product designs, showcased its motorsport intent with the reveal of the Genesis G70 GR4 Gran Turismo (GT), a California-built racing vehicle, during an exclusive event. The award-winning G70 sport sedan has been completely reimagined for competition with an all-new GT-inspired racing package. 

“The G70 GR4 GT builds on the existing G70 model to create a bold, yet elegant, high-performance racing vehicle,” said SangYup Lee, Senior Vice President and Head of Global Genesis Design. “We are pleased to be presenting this vehicle and others as we explore the brand’s entry into motorsport.” 

Genesis revealed several other vehicles in addition to the newly announced G70 GR4 GT, including the GR3 and three potential designs for a future Vision Gran Turismo Concept, an elite racing vehicle. Guests were invited to experience these new designs with the use of augmented and virtual reality technologies. 

The Vision Grand Turismo Concept designs included:  

• The GR1 Alpha_DB:an experimental concept that embraces Athletic Elegance, separating the brand’s iconic two lines to form one seamless design and testing the limits of aerodynamics and speed. 
• The GR1 Bravo_GB: presenting sophisticated sculpture, proving that function and beauty can work as one. 
• The GR1 Charlie_ET: embracing the technical precision of Athletic Elegance, capturing the tension, athleticism and performance that is embedded into all Genesis products.

The all-electric, high-performance Genesis Essentia Concept made its world debut at the 2018 New York International Auto Show. Essentia is the brand’s first battery electric vehicle and features a lightweight carbon-fiber monocoque, a robust, multi-motor electric powertrain, and a custom-tailored interior. Essentia is the brand’s initial concept for a true GT car and challenges the status quo as the ultimate manifestation of Genesis design and engineering. The 2019 G70 is the third of six new Genesis models slated to debut by 2021, and the final sedan of the lineup. As the first Genesis model in the highly competitive entry-level luxury segment, G70 will outperform legacy luxury sport sedans with driver-focused performance. G70 resets benchmarks and expectations among luxury sport sedans, with holistic integration of performance, body strength, refined luxury and aerodynamic design.

MONTEREY, Calif., Aug. 17, 2017 — Today, Genesis announced a display of student-designed ‘Vision 2025’ concept cars during the upcoming Monterey Car Week. The scale models are the culmination of a three-month-long educational project between ArtCenter College of Design and Genesis.

The ‘Vision 2025’ project began in May 2017 and challenged students to render and create scale models befitting a potential future halo car as well as a brand environment and experience to match. Students designed concepts informed by their vision of Genesis client values, preferences and mentality versus a traditional, data-focused, demographic approach.

“Sometimes when you want to be a step ahead you bring in outside inspiration,” said Head of Genesis Brand, Manfred Fitzgerald. “What does the next generation think? This partnership gives us a pure view of that and will help us refine the product and experience we offer.”

“For Genesis this project is part concept development and part recruiting,” said Head of Genesis Design, Luc Donckerwolke. “We find that students bring an entirely different approach to a given challenge compared with professional designers, graphic artists and experiential experts. That is why we stay constantly connected to them.”

After reviewing ten halo car designs, the Genesis design team selected four models to be on display for media to view at the private event. Additionally, all three of the brand experience concepts will be on display as well.

“There is true power in partnership with visionary corporations such as Genesis,” said ArtCenter’s Chair of Transportation Design, Stewart Reed. “It is particularly gratifying when our alumni are leading the charge, as with Luc, SangYup Lee and Sasha Selipanov at Genesis. Our goal is to prepare students to have an impact on the rapidly changing automotive world and industry collaboration is a rigorous and proven way to do that.”

Also during the weekend, the GV80 Concept SUV will make its concours debut on the Concept Lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
