SEOUL, April 27, 2023 — Genesis announced Thursday that the brand won five iF Design awards this year all in different disciplines — UX, Communication, Interior Architecture, Product and Professional Concept. 

Genesis House New York was acknowledged in three different categories from Showrooms Identity and Spatial Communication to Retail Design. Meanwhile, the G90 and Speedium Coupe each received the distinction in the Vehicle and Electric Vehicle categories, respectively. 

The prestigious contest — organized by iF International Forum Design GmbH, based in Hanover, Germany — celebrates excellence in design in a wide range of fields. This year’s jury consisted of 132 international design experts from over 20 countries. 

In the Retail Design category, Genesis House was recognized for its stunning interior architecture. The Spatial Communication category acknowledges interior architecture that delivers an excellent user experience. The award in the Showrooms Identity category reflects the work of Danish design studio HOMEWORK, who created a carefully curated line of branded items made from selected materials with understated typeface design. 

Situated in the heart of New York City’s Meatpacking District, Genesis House is a dynamic cultural space where visitors can experience Genesis hospitality through art, food and history. With three levels and more than 46,000 square feet (about 4,340 square meters) of floor space, it encompasses a teahouse, a restaurant and a library. Seoul-based Suh Architects created this sophisticated oasis with an aesthetic rooted in traditional and contemporary Korean design principles. 

Genesis also scored wins in the Vehicle category with the Genesis G90 and in the Electric Vehicle category with the Genesis X Speedium Coupe concept car. 

As the brand’s flagship model, the G90 is the ultimate expression of Genesis’ design identity Athletic Elegance with its sleek Two-Line headlamps and Crest Grille. The X Speedium Coupe concept, which was unveiled in April 2022, embodies the principle of reductive design to further accentuate the brand’s Beauty of White Space philosophy through clean lines and subtle curves. 

The iF jury selected the winners from almost 11,000 entries from 56 countries. The winners were announced April 14. On May 15, the awards will be presented at iF Design Award Night 2023 in Berlin.

SEOUL, April 24, 2023 — The Genesis X Convertible concept received the Car Design Award in Concept Cars category at the Car Design Award 2023 ceremony, held on April 18 at the ADI Design Museum in Milan. The model, which embodies the thrill of driving in the EV era, was one of 10 category finalists announced in February. 

The Car Design Award — established in 1984 by Fulvio Cinti, founder and former Editor-in-Chief of Auto & Design, and judged by a jury of experts representing some of the world’s most prestigious automotive magazines — recognizes significant contributions to the development of car design. With an aim “to celebrate cars and concepts that mark a turning point, a new departure for the future of transportation design,” the competition has three categories: Production Cars, Concept Cars and Brand Design Language. Last Tuesday night’s ceremony was part of Milan Design Week.  

Head of Genesis Design Il Hun Yoon, who accepted the honor in Milan, thanked his team for making the achievement possible. 

“We are thrilled to receive the Best Concept Car award,” he said. “The X Convertible concept is a beacon for the brand. It is representative of our Athletic Elegance design language, while expressing the brand DNA in a purer form. Although we’re still in our first chapter, the accumulation of acknowledgments is proof that Genesis Design’s audacious approach is being recognized.” 

Clarifying why the Genesis X Convertible was selected as the overall winner of the Best Concept Car category, the jury – which consisted of journalists from 11 different countries – stated: “Genesis has been on a roll recently, with truly clean and premium design, epitomized in the Genesis X Convertible. This project plays elegantly with the design elements of classic sports convertibles in a contemporary interpretation, enhancing Genesis design DNA.” 

As the final piece in the X Concept Trilogy, the X Convertible shares the same architecture and electric powertrain as the X Concept and the X Speedium Coupe concept. Unveiled in November 2022 in Malibu, California, it features a folding hardtop roof with transparent moon roofs above the front seats, creating an open feel even when it’s closed. With ideal proportions complemented by design purity, the car exemplifies the brand’s efforts to refine the way it orchestrates the design elements that make up Athletic Elegance, the brand’s design language. 

Several unique touches reflect the brand’s Korean heritage. The primary exterior color is Crane White, named after the white cranes that symbolize sanctity in Korean culture. The interior is finished in Giwa Navy, a color name derived from the roof tiles on traditional Korean homes, and Dancheong Orange, which is inspired by the colorful decorative patterns found in the country’s traditional wooden buildings.
