  • Fourth exhibition presented as part of multi-year partnership between Genesis and The Metropolitan Museum of Art
  • Vo to create new works for The Met's historic facade, bringing objects and histories into unexpected relationships that prompt new reflections

SEOUL, Oct. 15, 2026 — As part of Genesis’ multi-year partnership with The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Genesis shares the Museum’s announcement today that artist Danh Vo has been selected for The Genesis Facade Commission in 2027. “The Genesis Facade Commission: Danh Vo” will be on view from Sept. 16, 2027 through June 13, 2028 in New York.

In Danh Vo’s practice, dialogues emerge through objects that carry meaning in relation to specific events or their currency as universal icons, with mortality being central to the work.

For the fourth exhibition of The Genesis Facade Commission, Vo will create four new works for the historic facade’s niches. By bringing together diverse objects and creating unexpected relationships that prompt new reflections, his works will become a compelling lens through which to engage with a site of classical architectural meaning.

“We are pleased to continue The Genesis Facade Commission with Danh Vo as its fourth artist,” said DooEun Choi, Art Director of Hyundai Motor. “By bringing objects and histories into new relations, Vo explores how meaning is shaped and transformed as it moves across time and contexts. We look forward to seeing this dialogue unfold at The Met.”

“Danh Vo treats history as something alive and unsettled, and is deeply attuned to the ways objects carry meaning across time,” said Max Hollein, The Met’s Marina Kellen French Director and Chief Executive Officer. “Vo takes apart the objects through which history is told, from monuments to family heirlooms, and reassembles them in ways that reveal how constructed and fragile our shared narratives can be. With a collection spanning thousands of years of art, The Met is a natural partner for the artist. Visitors will meet Vo’s project on Fifth Avenue, so that this commission frames the very experience of arriving at the Museum.”

“With a light but transfiguring touch, Danh Vo creates artworks that unfix and vivify our relationship to the past. He is one of the most inventive and essential artists of our time,” said David Breslin, The Met’s Leonard A. Lauder Curator in Charge, Department of Modern and Contemporary Art. “Danh Vo has long explored how objects hold histories, personal and political, often in ways that are layered or unresolved. This gives him a singular way into a building whose very purpose is to hold and contextualize very layered and unresolved collections for our millions of engaged visitors. We’re thrilled that Danh has taken on this project that holds a mirror onto The Met, the artist, and the world.”

“A facade is the place where the museum meets the street and it is also an expression of its values over time,” said Danh Vo. “How to create a work that meets the intensity of this invitation? An approach that finds relevance for the institution, for me as an artist, for New York? I know that anything I place within that frame will have the opportunity to be in conversation with a world of objects, and with the many people who made and cared for them.”

Initiated in 2024, The Genesis Facade Commission is an annual exhibition that builds upon the Museum’s contemporary art commissions on the Fifth Avenue facade since 2019. Each year, one artist selected by The Met is invited to create new site-specific works of art, inspiring authentic engagement between the artist, The Met's audience and the broader global art world.
